Our people-focused Learning and Development team are looking for an Operational Trainer to join the team to deliver operational training programs across the business.

There is no such thing as a typical day at Birtwistle's, which makes it all the more fun.


The main focus of your role will be to deliver effective operational training programs through face-to-face interactions both in the training environment and on the factory floor.

Successfully supporting the development needs of existing staff through task-specific training, meeting business and food legislation requirements.


Key role responsibilities and accountabilities:


  • Deliver effective training to all operative within the factory, identifying learning need through assessments, development sessions and based on the needs of the business, within the operational factory area.
  • Input into developing and maintaining training materials including work instructions for operational factory roles.
  • Continually seek to improve the quality of our training through evaluation and feedback. Identify new and innovative ways of offering and delivering training to the maximum benefit of employees and the business.
  • Ensure all training adheres to health and safety standards in compliance with the legislation.
  • Update and maintain training records and ensure all related paperwork is completed to align with BRC standards.
  • Create and own training schedules working closely with operations.
  • Partner with managers to create, develop and support the embedding of learning and individual development plans.
  • Develop yourself and always maintain knowledge in relevant field(s).
  • Work with the technical functions to ensure that all processes, records and operational training activity reflect the requirements needed for all audits and certifications
Working hours are Monday to Friday , with additional flexibility where required to meet business needs.

Essential Skills:

To be successful in this L&D Operational Trainer role, you will need:

  • Minimum of 6 months of training experience
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to influence other people's opinions by the way you deliver and present information.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation ability.

Desired Skills:


  • Food Safety training desirable
  • Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or Chartered Institute of Training Professionals (CITP) desirable but not essential.
