The Risk and Safety team based are on Stepping Hill Hospital site.

If you have an interest in Risk and Safety - this could be the job for you.


You will work to support the Band 5 Risk and Safety team lead while working within the same building as the Case Officers for Claims and Litigation, Inquests, Complaints, the Medico-legal team and the Health and Safety Officer for the Trust.

You will learn how each of the services interfaces with the other and how the Trust works to ensure that risks are identified and measures are put in place to ensure safety.

To support the Risk and Safety Team Lead in the smooth functioning of all risk related matters and all external risk assurance processes, including but not limited to CQC, LFPSE, PSIRF, HSE, Safety Alerts, Freedom of information requests, medical devices external reporting.

  • To support the Risk and Safety Team Lead in achieving the Risk and Safety Team objectives.
  • Administration and daily management of Serious Incidents (SI's) including logging on Datix, declaration on Strategic Executive Information System (StEIS) or Learning From Patient Safety Events (LFPSE) portal and requests for investigation from other agencies.
  • Facilitate the Risk and Safety teams' meetings including but not limited to, Incident Review Group (IRG), Serious Incident Review Group, (SIRG) and Harm Free Care, (HFC) panel. Arranging the venue, preparation/communication of agenda, and recording of meeting outcome / actions.
  • Maintaining the Risk and Safety team's monitoring (tracker/registers) and assurance processes for Incidents, Investigations, Risks, Safely Alerts, External Visits and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
  • Collation of data from Datix and other sources to commence collation of statistical data to identify trends and themes for inclusion into monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Assisting in improving compliance against standards such as the Care Quality Commission, (CQC) and the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS), Learning From Patient Safety Events (LFPSE), Patient Safety Incident Response Framework, (PSIRF) and the Central Alerts System, (CAS)
  • Provide training on the use of the Datix risk reporting system
  • Deputise for the Band 5 Risk and Safety Team Lead in the delivery of risk management training,
  • Support with the management of resources required for training
  • Management under the supervision of the Risk and Safety Team Lead, of the Datix risk management system and processes.
  • Undertake risk audits as required by the Deputy Director of Governance, Head of Quality Governance or Risk and Safety Team Lead
  • Provide advice and support to Directorates and staff groups e.g. undertaking training on wards in relation to Datix
  • Deputise for the Band 5 Risk and Safety Team Lead in providing training on the development and monitoring of risk assessments
  • Assist the Risk and Safety Team Lead in the development of local policies and procedures risk specific
  • Deputise for the Risk and Safety Team Lead supporting with meetings such as the Trust Serious Incident Review Group meeting (SIRG) and the Incident Review Group meeting (IRG)
  • Manage the Alert process in line with the Trust policy, including communicating alerts, recording responses, monitoring compliance; provide the data for the Risk Alert monitoring reports.
