We are looking for a Senior Assistant Scientist (calibration) to undertake the calibration and maintenance of a wide range of water quality monitoring equipment.

In addition you will manage and operate a quality assurance system and supervise staff as appropriate. You will also assist in the training of staff maintaining their competencies and training records.
The high resolution evidence produced is vital if we are to better understand our water environment.

  • The National Water Quality Instrumentation Team ( NWQIS) provides support to all high resolution water quality monitoring activities undertaken across the Agency. It delivers a vital service that underpins many of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities and our Statutory Surface Water Monitoring Programme's. It also makes a significant contribution towards commercial and funded science projects. The team also supports the wide range of high profile stakeholder partnerships managed by the NWQIS.


  • Experience/skills required 1

  • We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person. You will have a science or technical background, be formally qualified or with relevant vocational experience. In addition you should possess knowledge and interest in
Water quality and or lab Instrumentation
Environmental science
Quality assurance systems and documentation
Good mentoring skills to aspire and educate.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in word, excel and database management along with a passion for innovation and problem solving.

This is a non hybrid role and you will be based at Caversham Lakes, Reading.
