Description

The post holder will actively maintain and provide a high standard of care in accordance with policies/ procedures and the quality management manual.

The post holder will work as a member of the clinic team, assisting the nursing staff. They will be aware of the responsibilities and limitations of a health care assistant.


The health care assistant is accountable to the registered nurse/midwife or Operating Department Practitioner and will be supervised by them either directly or indirectly whilst on duty.


The post holder will take responsibility for co-coordinating key aspects of service provision and will have achieved the company and clinic competencies appropriate for the role.


Key Results Area:

  • In collaboration with the registered nursing staff, to use a variety of sources of information to assess the couples' needs and understand the knowledge that underpins this assessment.
  • To implement and evaluate basic care for a couple with collaboration from a registered nurse or midwife.
  • To undertake core clinical activities to ensure patients are comfortable and their privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
  • Carry out agreed components of care in collaboration with a registered nurse / midwife, but without the need for close supervision, including assisting the medical team with oocyte retrievals, cyst aspirations and surgical retrieval of sperm.
  • In collaboration with a registered nurse / midwife, use a variety of sources of information to evaluate and reassess patient care ensuring it is of the highest standard.
  • To maintain accurate, legible and legally substantive records of care.
  • To maintain confidentiality in accordance with the HFEA code of Practice, CQC and the data protection act.
  • To act professionally at all times, reporting to the nurse/midwife in charge anything relevant to the patient's condition and any untoward incident or accident.
  • To assist nurses/midwives in emergency situations by fetching equipment, liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To assist in keeping the clinic area clean and tidy and assist with general restocking of the consulting rooms and clinical areas.
  • To be aware of and adhere to all Company policies / procedures / nursing guidelines when undertaking any activities.
  • To assist in maintaining the safety of the environment and equipment for patients and colleagues.
  • To take routine blood samples as directed by a member of the nursing team.
  • Work with the management team to collect / prepare data for audit and reports.
  • The post holder is expected to take reasonable care of her own health and safety and any other persons who may be affected by her acts or omissions. Clinic
- s policies and statutory regulations should be adhered to with particular regard to health and safety, manual handling, infection control, fire, incident / accident reporting, COSHH.

  • The post holder should acknowledge any limitations of his / her competence, not accepting responsibility for work outside the scope of the role.
  • To maintain competencies relevant to the role and identify personal development needs; plan with the Nurse Manager how these can be achieved.
  • To acquire, maintain and improve knowledge and skills required to competently perform all agreed health care activities. This involves undertaking inhouse and mandatory training as agreed by the Nurse Manager.
  • To attend team meetings in order to keep updated on developments within the department.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of education
