Alopecia UK is a small, yet impactful charity working to improve the lives of people affected by Alopecia. Peer Support is at the heart of what we do. We are seeking a confident and compassionate person to join our team and be the primary point of contact for our incoming support queries.

Peer Support is highly rewarding work that places value on empathy, active listening, confidentiality, positive reinforcement and self-awareness to ensure that the needs of the community are met safely. Excitingly, this role includes some group work with our Youth Network and Youth Voice Board. This involves understanding the unique challenges teenagers face and creating an environment that is relatable to them.

As a result of a staff member going on Maternity Leave, Alopecia UK is seeking someone on an interim contract to continue to deliver to our model and there is a huge opportunity to be involved in shaping ideas for the future too.

Primary Purpose of the Role


In line with our Support Aim, the provision of practical and emotional support to people impacted by alopecia, including our young people networks.


Specific duties include

  • Moderate and provide charity input to our Facebook groups during working hours.
  • Administration and triage of our central mailbox.
  • Planning and developing our new Youth Voice Board and Youth Network programme including the running of online sessions, distribution of physical resources and direct communications.
  • A variety of administration responsibilities in relation to our support model, e.g. distribution of support related resources and management of mailing lists.
  • Represent the charity at a variety of Alopecia UK events, especially those related to the support model.

You will bring

  • Experience of offering support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and oral working with a variety of stakeholders in meetings, at events, face to face and online.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at various levels across our network.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and responsibility to get things done, individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and manage several simultaneous activities and deal with conflicting priorities to meet targets and changing deadlines.
  • Being able to remain calm under pressure and manage in a positive and solution‐focused manner.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Willingness to travel with an overnight stay.
  • Flexibility about hours of work as this role requires evening and weekend work.
  • A conscientious approach to work.

The Offer

  • Homebased, potential for a hybrid agreement for those who prefer to commute to our office in Shipley, West Yorkshire. This role will include evening and weekend work, some national travel, as well as travel to the North of England for team meetings.
- £20,800 for 30 hours, pro-rated from full time salary 37.5 hours at £26,000

  • Full time team member entitlement is 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, prorata for part time employees.
