JOB TITLE:
Waking Night Family Support Worker


REPORTING TO:
Residential Manager


Job Purpose

  • Ensure that the vision, values, policies and ethos of Athena Family Services Limited are promoted and adhered to throughout the night
  • Identify, report and manage current and emergency risks within the Home, including those that may impinge upon safeguarding and statutory compliance or inspection rating.
  • Ensure effective working relationships with all relevant Local Authority staff and social workers, and with all other relevant statutory agencies, e.g. police, child protection and CAMHS.
  • Ensure that all Azalea House requirements for data capture and the use of management information systems are met.
  • Ensure the home provides and maintains the highest levels of care and service in accordance with the legislative framework, company procedures, ethos and policy.
  • Ensure the safety of all residents and staff, and that safeguarding practice, procedures and recording meet all regulatory requirements and professional expectations.
  • Implementation of the relevant plan for each family, to monitor progress against the relevant plan and ensure it is reviewed as necessary
  • Contribute to the provision of high standard and fair parenting assessments when required to do so and attend court as part of this if the occasion requires.
  • Contribute to the delivery of parenting advice and support to improve the parenting capacity of residents.
  • Carry out observations throughout the night as detailed by care plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure all matters of statutory compliance are implemented for the home and ensure that all statutory requirements are met. To ensure that the Safeguarding policies are followed and adhered to at all times.
  • To contribute in implementing effective placement plans, parenting assessments, risk assessments, risk management and health care plans. To ensure all relevant documentation is in place for all residents. To Implement the Statement of Purpose.
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with parents and other family members.
  • To work in partnership with key professionals.
  • To encourage and support family's to take responsibility for their own lives commensurate with their age and ability.
  • To work effectively as part of a team
  • To maintain effective communication systems, including handovers, logbooks and staff meetings
  • To ensure that the home is kept in a clean, tidy and wellmaintained condition and that repairs, linen and furnishings are of an adequate standard or reported to management where improvement is required.
  • To ensure that adequate and appropriate security, health and safety and fire safety monitoring and recording systems operate within the Home.
  • To contribute in maintaining adequate updating of the inventory.
  • You will be required to become proficient in behavioural management techniques
  • To provide evidence based parenting information, support and advice to support the improvement of parenting capacity.
  • To ensure the safety of all residents throughout the night. To follow the on call policy if needed.

Person Specification/Competencies

  • Experience of safeguarding children or vulnerable adults.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a staff team and work cohesively within the management group
  • Demonstrate commitment to the staff team
  • Work in such a way which 'models' expectations and behaviour to both staff and residents.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • Be able to understand how working in a challenging environment affects them and the others
  • Self confidence in being able to ask for help and support when needed

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

  • Within the last 5 years, worked for at least 2 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children and families
  • Hold on appointment a Level 3 Diploma in a relevant field or a qualification which Athena Family Services Limited considers to be equivalent to the Level 3 Diploma
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding, child development and the benefit of parental involvement
  • Have a good understanding of parent assessments and the legal procedures of child protection
  • A full, clean driving licence and access to a car that can be used for business purposes.
