The client situation

The Teaching and Rehab Assistant role involves:

  • Implementing educational advice, including in class support and record keeping.
  • Implementing the behaviour and support plan, therapy exercises and guidelines.
  • Supporting the Client within school throughout lessons and break times.
  • Providing the Client with support enabling him to access a range of social, recreational and sporting activities.
  • Driving the client to various venues.
  • Assisting the Client manage episodes of challenging behaviour.
  • Solving day to day problems in partnership with members of the professional team.
  • Conducting regular informal reviews with the client and his family and providing feedback to the Special Educational Needs Advisor / Case Manager/ Assistant Case Manager as required.
  • Ensuring that all paperwork is completed on a daily basis and sending to ECMS each month for review.
  • Assisting the Special Educational Needs Advisor / Assistant Case Manager Complete and record monthly care plan reviews and reporting any changes to the Special Educational Needs Advisor / Case Manager / Assistant Case Manager for implementation.
  • Ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures by yourself and other staff, including agency workers.
  • Ensuring completion of training allocated to you within defined timeframes.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Ability to absorb complex information and training provided by the case manager and therapists and to demonstrate accurate implementation of instruction and guidelines.
  • Effective team working skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Always behaving within the good practice guidelines and standards of consent outlined in the school handbook and other national guidance.
  • Maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level III for a Teaching Assistant or other relevant qualification.

Skills

  • Verbal and non verbal communication skills ensuring successful support provision for a brain injured service user.
  • Excellent record keeping skills and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and on a one to one basis.
  • Ability to work with intelligence and initiative but to seek help, support or advice when needed or appropriate.
  • Ability to utilise and implement training and instruction.
  • Ability to work in an organised and systematic fashion.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the effects of brain injury.
  • An understanding of the needs of people with disabilities.

Experience

  • Experience of working within an education setting.
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of working with clients with acquired brain injury.
  • Experience of supporting clients who display challenging behaviour.

Personal characteristics

  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviour appropriate to the support worker role on a consistent basis.

Job Types:
Part-time, Zero hours contract


Salary:
Up to £16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 18 per week
