POSITION:
Dementia Activity Worker**RESPONSIBLE TO: CiC Manager


BASED AT:
63 Niddrie Mains Terrace, Edinburgh


The Dementia Activity Service is an exciting project to deliver activities to our existing day service members, funded by National Lottery Community Fund.

Established in 2002, Caring in Craigmillar is a voluntary organisation based in North East Edinburgh.


CiC is a Registered Day Care Service providing opportunities for older people who have care and support needs, including those with a diagnosis of dementia, or other long-term health conditions.


CiC provides a nurturing service which encourages our members to feel involved in their local community and socialise with their peers, we want members to feel supported to continue to live independently and achieve positive outcomes.

We provide day opportunities to help prevent social isolation and improve the quality of life for older people living with Dementia and long-term health issues, enabling members to live well in their own homes for as long as possible.


Our Day Service offers a comfortable, welcoming environment for members to enjoy the company of others, to maintain skills and encourage community integration.

We promote good conversations and member participation which allows us to offer a range of activities to meet our members emotional, mental, and physical needs.


Main Purpose


To be an integral part of the staff team, as a dementia activity worker we will look to you to think creatively to develop a diverse and engaging programme, enhancing the wellbeing of our members through providing a stimulating range of activities.

You will be responsible for creating and co-ordinating a varied activity programme from organised hobbies, group activities and one to one work, all of which will promote independence, choice, and dignity for our members.

Your role will involve getting to know our members, their interests and life stories, you will plan and deliver activities that enrich the lives of our members and ensure they have opportunities to stay connected with their community.


Energy and enthusiasm is crucial, you will need to build trusting relationships and have good conversations with members, combined with empathy to listen to and understand our members and their interests.


Although you will be based in the centre, we will require you to develop relationships in the local community to enable members to connect with resources in the community that could help their social isolation and improve their health and wellbeing.

This role is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

This job description outlines the overall requirements you are required to meet for the post. The list of duties is not exhaustive and the Manager may vary duties from time to time.


The role will cover 4 days per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (30 hours) Part Time, Fixed Term to February 2025.

The annual salary for the post is £17,191.20.
