Job summary:

The Animal Plant Health Agency (APHA) is a government agency that sits within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

We currently have one exciting opportunity to join the Scotland Field Delivery Team as a Delivery Team Leader, to lead a complex local field delivery team of mixed veterinary and technical professionals.

The post holder will be accountable for prioritising resource and workloads across the team to achieve all expected delivery targets, and primarily helping to safeguard animal health and welfare, protect the economy and enhance food security.

Job description:

As Delivery Team Leader for The Scotland Delivery Team your duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Provide visible leadership to the team, monitoring performance against agreed objectives to keep work on track.
  • Manage the performance, conduct and attendance of the field team, ensuring that all team members contribute to achieving targets and operate in accordance with policies, procedures and our values and ways of working.
  • Deploy resources and organise workloads to enable the most effective and efficient delivery despite challenges.
  • Work with the wider Delivery Team Leader cohort to prioritise and share resource and workloads across the Agency, rather than maintaining a focus on local delivery goals alone.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships, including partnering with senior professional veterinary and technical functional managers.
  • Ensure capability to meet performance expectations and respond to emergencies, by reviewing performance on a regular basis, seeking professional insight from functional partners, providing access to professional coaching and mentoring within the matrix system, implementing performance improvement and development where necessary.
  • Create a team environment within a geographically dispersed team in which everyone can and does contribute effectively, and where different perspectives are heard and channelled.
  • Ensure that professional skills are developed and maintained to undertake any allocated roles during incidents and emergency activities.
  • Respond flexibly to incidents and outbreaks of notifiable animal and plant disease, with reasonable notice undertaking periods of detached duty, roles and tasks as required by the Agency.
