The role

As a Senior Technical Author, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will be tasked with managing a team of Technical Authors who are responsible for authoring procedures required within the industrial teams to carry out operations and maintenance on the facility.


Day to day, you'll oversee a team of Technical Authors who are responsible for delivering operating procedures for both maintenance and operations within the radioactive waste management organisation.

You will be required to interpret the demand for each document and foresee the requirement for documentation for future projects or novel tasks.


  • Managing a team of Technical Authors, ensuring enablement of activities within the integrated master schedule through the production of technical documentation
  • Ensuring that strict mandatory / contractual and legislative standards of nuclear safety and conventional health and safety are maintained when producing technical documentation
  • You will be producing documentation and perform quality checking to your own work and the work of your peers
  • You will provide advice and guidance to Project/Production departments to support with costing and planning analysis for ongoing work programming
  • Liaising with other departments as necessary to provide technical input/receive technical information

Essential experience of the Senior Technical Author:

  • Understand/interpret a variety of technical documents and drawings
  • Ability to use a variety of sources of information to extract necessary and important data to populate procedures and operational documentation
  • Understanding of/experience working in a regulated environment
  • Appreciation/understanding of/experience working in industrial areas and the associated hazards
  • Experience in maintenance of facilities and equipment to support industrial activities both nuclear and nonnuclear
This role is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard full time.
