British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a
Data Protection and FOI Officer on a Permanent Contract. The role is paying £32,757.33 per annum and will be based in Cardiff. This role offers a blended approach of office and home working.


BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.

As a
Data Protection and FOI Officer you will be required to:

  • Responsible for receiving, assessing and progressing Data Protection and Freedom of Information requests in accordance with the Force's statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including police officers and staff, railway industry bodies, solicitors, regulatory bodies, media contacts and members of the public.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Data Protection and Freedom of Information enquiries and will ensure compliance in line with current legislation, British Transport Police policy and best practice.
  • The post holder will be required to manage, interrogate and update information held within force systems and review, redact and sanitise information for release under the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts.

The successful
Data Protection and FOI Officer will be required to evidence the following:

Qualifications and Training:

Must be educated to A level or equivalent.

Skills:

Written communication skills for reports, procedures and training materials.

Must have an analytical and methodical approach when dealing with large quantities of information.

Must be able to provide specialist advice and guidance to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge:

Sharing protocols. However, full training will be given to the successful applicant.

Knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice including Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation, European Convention of Human Rights Act, Road Traffic Acts, Code of Practice on Management of Police Information, Crime and Disorder Act, Government Security Classifications, Environmental Information Regulations, Police Act and Information
