Job description:

Leading UX XR studio Maze Theory are looking for a Senior or Principal Level Designer.

You will be joining a team who are enthusiastic about creating unique gaming experiences that capture the imagination of players and live long into the memory.

Maze Theory, following their success working on the Peaky Blinders and Dr Who IPs are now working on a brand new game with one of the world's largest IPs

As a Senior or Principal Level Designer you will collaborate with design colleagues and key project stakeholders to ensure consistently high-quality level design across the game and ensure there is a balance between difficulty and progression.

You will be a driving force for level design within the studio and take ownership for crafting a believable, user-friendly world for players to explore.

You will achieve this by using your talent for environmental storytelling and by creating play spaces that invite exploration, whilst also supplying the right layout and framing for key narrative events and encounters to take place.


Your responsibilities

  • Be the voice for all things level design and an inspiration to your team
  • Define and maintain level design processes, pipelines, and best practices
  • Create authentic, rich spaces in which the player can explore, interact with characters, and engage in combat/stealth encounters
  • Lead the player through the world, ensuring that they understand their objectives and can find the way intuitively and with confidence
  • Lay out the game world and script events to create unforgettable experiences, crafting the pace whilst balancing progression, challenge and reward
  • Collaborate with the rest of the design team and key stakeholders to ensure consistently highquality level design across the game and wellbalanced difficulty and progression

The skills and experience you'll bring to the role

  • Excellent grasp of level design fundamentals and the role it plays in the overall player experience
  • 5+ years of level design experience with one or more shipped titles
  • Experience of taking levels from initial concept through to completion
  • Ability to create level layouts at all stages, from simple sketches to fully functional levels
  • A strong grasp of 3Dlevel editors and visual scripting systems
  • Experience with Unity
