CLINICAL SUPPORT DIRECTORATE
We are looking for forward thinking individuals to join our department as Senior Fellows in Anaesthesia. We have a range of posts on offer with various clinical and/or research interests.

Combined clinical and research fellowships are available in thoracic and upper GI anaesthesia, major head and neck / difficult airway, in anaesthesia for major spinal and neurosurgery, obstetric anaesthesia & hepatobiliary anaesthesia, perioperative care, total intravenous anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and Pre-Hospital emergency care.

We also have primarily non clinical fellowships in research, education and patient safety. These posts are open to post fellowship trainees and post CCT applicants would be especially welcomed. The posts include a contribution to out of hours' service. These posts are for 12 months and start in August 2023.

The Anaesthetic Department works across the two campuses at NUH.

Both parts of the department are cohesive and friendly units which take pride in providing a high standard of care in an excellent major teaching hospital environment.

Across the sites there are 61 operating theatres and a wide range of subspecialty areas of practice.


The Anaesthetic Department enjoys close links with the Nottingham and East Midlands School of Anaesthesia and the University Department of Anaesthesia, Nottingham University.

There are active postgraduate educational programmes.

  • APLS/EPLS provider or instructor
Clinical skills/Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of job plan, inc. oncall work
  • Evidence of commitment to persuing a career in tertiary level Paediatric Anaesthesia
  • Technical skills/competencies required for all aspects of job plan
  • Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multiprofessional team
Desirable criteria

  • Experience in other related specialities (PICU, NICU, paediatrics)
  • Successful completion of 'Higher' Paediatric Anaesthesia module
Management skills

Essential criteria

  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, families and other health professionals
  • Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
Desirable criteria

  • Management/Administration experience (e.g. rota coordination)
  • Understanding of the current structure of the NHS including recent changes and initiatives
Personal skills/Qualities

Essential criteria

  • Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
  • Ability to communicate effectively with good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance
