Description

We're in need of an experienced 3D Game Artist to work on a number of exciting XR projects - at our studio in Bristol, or possibly remote.

You'll be working within our close-knit team, building visually stunning assets for our innovative AR and VR experiences.

We've made VR experiences for the Eden Project, the MOD and Upfest, and our recent AR content spans from the Acropolis of Athens and the National Gallery to Sony Music and Thomas & Friends.

No two days are ever the same at Zubr

You'll be putting your talent for 3D creation to great use; designing, modelling and optimising assets across the spectrum of web, mobile and high-spec deployments.

You'll likely be undertaking plenty of detailed scene composition, which could be the interior of a futuristic ship, or an entire historical village.

Similarly, you might be required to prepare whole sets of smaller assets, such as 3D-scanned museum artefacts or low-poly, stylised hats for selfie filters.

For this role you'll be working closely with the Lead 3D Artist and Lead Developer.

You don't need any prior experience working with AR or VR specifically; our team will show you the virtual ropes and allow you to focus on creating great 3D work.

Essential skills

  • Demonstrable ability in 3D asset creation and optimisation for realtime, from 2+ years of practical experience in video game/other relevant realtime 3D industry.
  • Setup of assets in Unity and/or Unreal engines, including scene composition, lighting and materials.
  • Good general artworking skills for 3D assets: Following industrystandard modelling practices with clean topology, familiarity with PBR workflows, UV unwrapping.
  • Professional knowledge of your chosen 3D suite, Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max or Blender.
  • Organisational skills to both work on a task autonomously or as a part of a team.
  • Good knowledge of common development and productivity methodologies such as source and versioning control.

Desired skills

  • Experience of 3D animation within Unity/Unreal would be highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of a production cycle, including ability to prioritise tasks and raise issues where necessary.
  • Experience with heavy optimisation and compression techniques for targeting lowerend mobile devices is greatly desired.
  • Familiarity with shaders within Unity/Unreal

This role is NOT suitable for:

  • 3D Artists who have only worked with pre-rendered media
  • Unity/Game generalists
  • General creative technologists/artists

Remote working, WFH

By default this role is to be based at our studio in Bristol, UK, for you to be hands-on with our practical testing, deployments and company activities.

For that reason we will give priority to local talent. However, since COVID-19, we have increased flexibility to remote working.

We will consider applicants working from anywhere in the UK with the addition of the following conditions:

  • You have your own suitable computer hardware.
  • We will consider the above 'Desired Skills' more heavily for remote workers.

Furthermore, all studio-based staff have adapted to working from home approximately one or two days per week - so if you are based locally, it isn't always essential for you to come in every day.
