An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic self-motivated individual with previous finance experience to join Oxford University Hospitals R&D Finance Department to assist with the management of the finances for individual research studies.

The R&D finance department manages in excess of £50m annually with a large number of study accounts for commercial and non-commercial studies supporting a portfolio of clinical research areas across the Trust.


To join our Study Finance Team to assist with the financial management of the Trust's portfolio of Research Studies and Grants.


The post is advertised as full-time (37.5 hours per week), however near to full-time (30 hours to 37.5 hours) would be considered.


This post is based at Unipart House at Cowley, with a hybrid model which allows for the potential for some home working.


The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

ROLE SUMMARY/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:


  • To ensure that appropriate study files are established, maintained and closed in accordance with agreed procedures and on a timely basis.
  • To liaise with Research Teams and Study Sponsors to ensure that all income due, including set up fees and participant activity is invoiced to the study funding body on a timely basis.
  • To ensure the timely payment of invoices, patient expense claims and internal reimbursements relating to each study, making sure they have been approved by the appropriate study contact, and there are sufficient funds available to make the payment.
  • To undertake month-end and year-end processes such as the calculation of accruals and the input of necessary journals.
  • To assist with the completion of periodic grant returns as required.
  • To provide support and advice to non-finance managers and researchers within the OUHFT and OU with the aim of assisting them in developing their understanding of financial issues, including the financial policies and procedures which govern how research is managed. To attend meetings with key research staff, either in person or via MS Team / Zoom.
  • To ensure that each study Principal Investigator (PI) receives an accurate and timely statement of financial activity on each study for which they are responsible upon request.
  • To work with the Head of R&D Financial Management and the Senior Study Finance Officer to develop effective and efficient procedures and practices relating to the management of study finances.
  • To work with senior R&D finance staff to ensure that timely and accurate financial information relating to research studies and grants is maintained in the R&D Finance Databases.
  • To liaise with Study Costing Officers on matters relating to study and grant costings as required.
  • To provide advice and support to other teams within the Joint Research Office on matters relating to the financial management of Research Studies and Grants.
  • To assist with any other duties as required.
