Too many people pass through the criminal justice system without their mental health needs being recognised.

With more than 70% of the prison population experience some level of mental distress, it's crucial that specialist services exist to ensure that people get the care and support they need to break the cycle of offending.

This is where you come in.


We are seeking a Forensic Mental Health Practitioner to provide assessments and 1:1 psychological interventions to our Community Harm Exploitation Operational Group (CHEOG) service based in Southwark.

The service works with 16-25 year olds who are either victims or perpetrators of gang violence.

As an integral part of a wider multi-disciplinary and multi agency initiative aimed to address the serious issue of Gangs within Southwark you will work as part of a whole system approach aiming to improve public protection, and to promote psychological health, wellbeing, pro-social behavior and relational outcomes for those accessing the service.

The post holder will offer case consultations and advice to professionals supporting young adults who are affiliated to gangs and will also offer one-to-one support to a caseload of service users.


  • Assess mental health and social care needs and provide a bespoke holistic support package
  • Empower people to lead on their support plan
  • Provide lowintensity support interventions of psychoeducation and using different techniques, for example Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy
  • Contribute to the prevention and management of harmful and violent behaviour
  • Help people to build selfesteem and increase motivation
  • Dynamically assess and manage risk, sharing need to know information with the relevant agencies

This is a fixed term post until 31/3/2024
