A great opportunity has arisen for either an experienced Band 2, an existing Band 3 Assistant or experienced personnel within the healthcare system to work as a multiskilled therapy assistant as part of the new Coventry and Warwickshire stroke pathway.

There are two WTE posts available, and the role will involve working alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists in the provision of stroke rehabilitation activities within the inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit (Felix Holt Ward) at George Eliot Hospital.

  • To assist the Stroke Rehabilitation Therapy team in the provision of an effective and efficient Therapy Service.
  • To carry out a wide range of therapy programmes and practice of rehabilitation activities with stroke survivors in the ward setting
  • To assist with the running of classes in the inpatient setting.
  • To assist with administrative duties, including ordering equipment, record keeping plus data inputting.

CLINICAL

  • To treat and provide quality care to patients as delegated by the responsible therapist within agreed protocols and treatment plans, as documented by the qualified staff.
  • Work unsupervised to implement appropriate treatment plans as designated by a senior therapist. Treatment should be delivered in the most appropriate location for the client, adjusting own clinical interventions based on the patient's fluctuating needs.
  • To ensure methods of treatment, its frequency and review are appropriate to the diagnosis/problem of the patient and within the priorities of the Service.
  • Discuss with the registered therapist in the planning, implementation, evaluation and modification of therapy interventions.
  • To ensure that all client intervention is documented in a timely, objective and confidential manner via specific therapy notes.
  • To ensure a beneficial and positive communication with clients, their families/carers and other professionals involved, respecting individual needs and promoting user involvement/decision making.
  • To ensure all necessary Therapy intervention is undertaken in accordance with departmental policy, and advises the Team Leader or Senior Therapist of an inability to do so.
  • Encourage patients and their carers to actively participate in regaining and maintaining their personal independence through the use of persuasion and motivational skills.
  • Deal with sensitive situations or contentious information.
  • Use efficient and effective communication methods e.g. appropriate use of electronic communication.
