Job Role:


Our client is a market leader in managing independent purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) The Company, since it was formed in October 2015, has secured 40,000 bed spaces across 160 properties with more than 50 different clients.

We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant, who will have responsibility for the ownership and detailed analysis of the monthly and annual management accounts, prior to the review of the Senior Management Accountant (SMA) and Finance Manager (FM).Excellent communication skills, accuracy, commercial acumen, efficiency, and an eye for detail are essential.

With the company continuing to grow, the responsibilities of the role will develop in-line with any future structural changes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Profit Margin Analysis according to the commercial contract.
  • Read and dissect commercial contracts to extract relevant information and communicate effectively.
  • Produce monthly management accounts for 160 properties for 1st draft review to strict deadlines.
  • Maintain Balance Sheet reconciliations for all balance sheet codes.
  • Manage Payroll and Expenses process ensuring accurate accounts.
  • Primary contact for internal accounting queries for the expanding property portfolio.
  • Use commercial acumen to identify opportunities to enhance the bottom line.
  • Analyse key variances that drive movements in the financial accounts and make recommendations.
  • Support in the review, analysis, and production of the annual property budgets. Identifying opportunities for streamlining and improvements ensuring accuracy of numbers.
  • Manage the relationship with our external utility broker.
  • Assist in monitoring of KPI targets for the team and produce action plans.
  • Support the Assistant Management Accountants in the development of their knowledge and skills.
  • Encourage innovation within the corporate finance team on reporting techniques and process efficiencies.
  • Maintain and build key relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Monthly meetings with Operational team to understand the cost drivers within the business, gain an understanding of potential savings and challenge any overspend.
  • Support with the annual external audit.
  • Adhoc project work and other tasks as required.
  • To support and maintain best practice regarding GDPR.
  • To keep up to date with industry initiatives to enable best practice to be always adopted.

IT Skills (includes Key Competencies)

  • Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (Excel skills are key in this role)
  • Accounting Packages ideally Navison
  • Reporting Packages ideally JET reports
  • An excellent level of IT understanding adhoc packages are used within the function

Experience and Qualifications

  • AAT Accounting Qualification or studying towards a Professional Accounting Qualification (CIMA/ACCA).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a relevant Accounting/Finance Function.
  • Experience in designing and implementing automated reports/processes.
  • Good organisational skills and can work in a methodical manner.
  • Time management skills.
  • Proven track record in all areas of accounts.

Desirable

  • Full driving licence and use of own vehicle
  • Experience with Navision system and Jet Reporting
