Events Manager


Our client is a local charity who are looking for an Events Manager to manage the charity's events portfolio over a rolling two year programme that raises the profile of the brand and attracts new supports but also supports income generation.

This will includedelivering a number of large [mass participation] and smaller [bespoke] events from conception, development, planning, promotion, participant communications and stewardship, delivery and post-event evaluation.


Key Responsibilites
The role of Events Manager can be split into three core areas of responsibility:


  • Event Project Management:
  • The postholder will be responsible for the income targets for mass participation and challenge events, as well as providing appropriate events in support of specific fundraising income generation financial targets.
  • To put together an event portfolio [and subsequent detailed project plan] on a rolling two year basis in support of the charity's community engagement and income generation objectives.
  • For each event lead on negotiating appropriate spaces and venues across the charities's Region that will add to the USP of our events and enhance their salability.
  • Will have ownership of the full events expenditure budget and the responsibility to ensure maximum ROI on each event delivered.
  • Manage vendors and/or external suppliers and/or partner contributors.
  • To identify and secure places with thirdparty providers that ensure the best ROI but will be attractive opportunities for our supporters [e.g. Marathon, Skydive, Tough Mudder]
  • Ensure all Health & Safety guidelines are adhered to in terms of event management best practice, the charities' liability and insurance, as well as ensuring all relevant licenses and permissions are in place prior to all activity.
  • Ensure all event resource required for the successful delivery for each event in good time [e.g. signage, audio/visual equipment, other equipment, decorations, auction prizes, staff and volunteers, First Aiders, etc.].
  • Management of all briefings, information and communications for those involved in the delivery of the events, stewardship of speakers and VIPs, as well as the participants / guests.
  • Coordinate postevent evaluation and lessons learnt to best inform the future events portfolio.

Marketing and Sales [Fundraising]:


  • To work closely with Marketing to maximize engagement with the events through integrated marketing campaigns to drive signups to both mass participation events but also challenge events
  • Use all social media platforms to both promote events but also to enhance the event experience for participants / guests.
  • Develop and provide sponsorship opportunities working with the relevant members of Fundraising.

Stakeholder Engagement and Management:


  • To establish and build good relationships with vendors and external suppliers to negotiate the best opportunities and prices.
  • Responsible for building up a bank of volunteers with the right skill mix to support with the promotion, delivery and running of events but also the delivery and running of all Hospiceled events.
  • Communicate, maintain, and develop long lasting relationships with supporters and event participants
  • Identify and build relationships with high profile local residences [and, if possible, celebrities and/or influencers] who are willing to lend their brand[s] to help us market and sell our events.

Person specification:


  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Event Management or any other relevant discipline, or possess equivalent experience in Event Management [at least 4 years]
  • Certificated evidence of Health & Safety training in risk assessments or relevant training to event management
  • Must be able to demonstrate prior experience of the successful management of large scale events [over 500 participants]
  • Be an outstanding project manager, possessing planning, managing and coordinating skills
  • Creative thinker and ability to transform concepts into reality
  • Have a soundtrack record of planning and managing budgets and managing expenditure
  • Be an excellent negotiator with proven experience of managing external suppliers
  • Must understand licensing rules and regulations
  • Must have experience of completing risk assessments and working with Health & Safety professionals
  • Should be able to show leadership skills and manage teams to support the successful promotion and delivery of all events
  • Must be computer literate with advance skills in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Be competent in using a CRM system and experience of managing data
  • Indepth knowledge of social media and an understanding in how these platforms can be harnessed to maximize event participant experience and engagement
  • Must be able to drive
  • Must be able to work outside of office hours [evenings and weekends]
