Job Summary


As the Senior Data Quality Specialist, you will be part of the Government Data Quality Hub - a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data and quality specialists with a cross-government remit.

You will work with other members of the team to establish and maintain world-leading approaches to quality of data and analysis across government, while ensuring that knowledge and expertise are shared effectively.


Our goal is to help anyone in the public sector in managing their data and analysis quality, so that quality is known and continuously improved.

Your role provides scope for a variety of work, managing projects, collaborating with colleagues at all levels and gaining a big picture view of the work of analysts and data specialists across the public sector.

You will have experience of working with data and improving data quality. You will have an understanding of good data management principles and how quality can impact on outcomes. You will be passionate about improving data quality for the benefit of government, business and members of the public. Ideally but not essentially, you may have experience of working with government data.


Job description


Reporting to one of our two Data Quality Leads, you will part of a collaborative team of 8, where some line management responsibility may be assigned.

Your activities will focus on driving lasting change through collaboration across government, and may include:


Promoting a culture of good data quality management across government through collation of best practice, the sharing of expertise, and supporting others to embed good practice within their own work.

Building capability across government on measuring, communicating and improving quality including providing free support services, courses, workshops and seminars; Develop strong relationships with data management professionals across government to ensure delivery of common objectives on quality;

Leading on designing and publishing to support the implementation of data quality practices across government; Supporting direction-setting across government on quality, aligning to the strategic priorities of groups including the Data Advisory Board and Data Leaders Network, and the National Data Strategy.


Person specification - Essential criteria
In your personal statement please evidence that you have:

  • Experience in data management, data analysis, statistical analysis, or data engineering that can be applied to assessing and improving data quality, delivering high quality outcomes in a way that meets customers' needs.
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders across organisational and professional boundaries, building positive collaborative working relationships.
  • An understanding of how your work fits into the wider picture, seek out opportunities to generate positive change and maximise impact.
