SLB's Research Center based in Cambridge is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England.

This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building.

Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.


Job Summary:


You will be part of the multi-disciplinary Downhole Systems team developing technologies for geothermal as well as oil and gas well construction and pursuing fundamental research in rock cutting physics.

Your role will be to work with research scientists to develop an FEA model for simulating rock-cutter interactions. This will involve preparing a suitable FEA model based on existing prototypes and validating results with experimental data.

You will also explore options to further improve prediction, including extension of the model to allow thermal analysis capabilities and for automation of the simulations.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Developing and running FEA model
  • Planning and carrying out experimental work, ensuring that laboratories activities are keep within Health & Safety standards guidelines
  • Analysing and interpreting modeling results and experimental data
  • Participating in regular meeting to discuss project progress
  • Writing technical reports and presenting to peers

Competencies:


Required skills:

  • Software and numerical analysis
  • Good communication skills
  • Teamwork and collaboration
Exposure to any of the following would be a plus:

  • Programming Languages (e

g:
Matlab, Python)

  • Modeling software (e

g:
Ansys, Comsol, Abaqus)


Qualification:

Studying towards a Bachelors or Masters in a physical science or engineering field.
