Description
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Consultant Cellular Pathologist wspi Head & Neck.

This is a replacement post following the departure of the previous head & neck Lead Pathologist and is designed to cover the general histopathology and cytology cut up and reporting duties in conjunction with a colleague.

This post would suit either an experienced head & neck pathologist or a pathologist with some head & neck experience looking to further develop in a supportive established service.

For the most part, the histopathologists' work is allocated dynamically using the RCPath workload point system to assign a daily workload appropriate to the agreed job.

This is a busy department, receiving a wide range of surgical specimens from the major specialities, but not specialist lympho-reticular, paediatric pathology or neuropathology.

Diagnostic (non-gynae) cytopathology, post-mortems, small and large specimen surgical pathology currently form separate elements of the rota.

  • Deliver a diagnostic histopathology service of high quality.
  • Contribute to development of the general and specialist histology to support the Trust in ensuring provision of high quality reports.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to support the timely reporting of histology and cytology requests
  • Undertake an appropriate share of the frozen section rota.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings (MDT).
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence
- based research and appraisal.

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be.

Yes, experience is important but so is outlook - if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress

For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description

The head and neck pathologists have the responsibility of covering head & neck cancer and thyroid MDT duties and the new consultant will be expected to take part in covering this part of work together with another pathologist already in post.

The head & neck cases operated locally will be reported and shared by all the other pathologists in the department.

The post holder will be required to supervise the cut up of head & neck specimens when they develop enough experience in this field.
