Description

Who are Vital Energi?
We are an energy solutions provider who design, build, operate and maintain centralised and efficient low carbon energy projects.

We currently support hospitals, universities, new build residential developments, towns and cities as well as industrial and commercial clients to decarbonise their buildings.

We have, and continue to, work on ground-breaking projects throughout the UK which are leading the way to achieving the UK's Net Zero targets.

As a result of successful company growth, we are looking for a Energy Modeller to join our design team.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director, this role involves working on a broad range of RIBA Stage 2 & 3 designs including District Heating systems, energy centre design which may include CHP, heat pumps and other renewable technologies and RE:fit/NDEE type energy frameworks involving the modelling of Energy Conservation measures (ECM's).

This will include working closely with our proposals Engineers and wider Bid Team to undertake Energy analysis and modelling to provide robust models to allow the development of concept designs and inform initial plant selections.

You will be responsible for interpreting and manipulating half hourly energy data, estimating building demands, modelling buildings to determine heating and cooling loads and creating building energy profiles to size renewable energy plant.

You will contribute to RIBA Stage 2 & 3 reports to support Tender and Bid submissions.

Familiarity with modelling the integration of low carbon technologies into buildings and on an energy network scale would be advantageous.

The Role

Key duties will include:

  • Interpreting and manipulating data to provide annual demand curves from existing building data. This may be half hourly, daily, monthly or annual data for heating, cooling and power systems
  • Estimating building demands using available information and data, where information is not available using relevant benchmarks such as BSRIA and CIBSE to determine demands or modelling buildings using Thermal modelling software (IES)
  • Sizing renewable technology plant based on the demand curves created and commercial considerations using Excel spreadsheets and software such as Energy Pro
  • Undertaking bespoke Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) modelling using nationally recognised methods that can be measured and verified under Energy Frameworks such as RE:Fit or NDEE
  • Preparing summaries detailing modelling outputs for use in RIBA Stage 2 & 3 design reports.
  • Appraising and interpretating client requirements including Tender documentation
  • Having an awareness of cost implications within design
  • Liaising with Vital Energi's inhouse Bid Team, Solar PV designers and Proposals Engineers to influence designs and produce tender information.
  • Complying with CDM requirements and our inhouse design processes

The Person

Skills/Experience

  • Educated to a Degree level in a sustainability, engineering or science discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in a design/design build environment
  • Thorough understanding of building physics with experience of thermal modelling software such as IES or Hevacomp would be advantageous but not essential.
  • An understanding of energy frameworks such as NDEE, Re:Fit, PSDS, etc. would be advantageous but not essential
  • An interest and some knowledge of low carbon energy technologies and ideally their integration into district energy networks
  • Experience of renewable technology selection software such as Energy Pro would be advantageous
  • Experience of carbon reduction planning requirements in the built environment would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of measurement and verification methods, particularly international performance measurement and verification protocols (IPMVP) would be advantageous.

Competencies

  • Has a passion and interest in emerging technologies within the Energy Market and supporting the drive to Net Zero
  • Flexible approach to managing workload with the ability to work to deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software packages including, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Full UK driving licence

The Package
