There is an opportunity for an Information Security Specialist to join Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Digital Services team.

Reporting to the Information Assurance and Security Manager, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, managing, and troubleshooting Cyber Security solutions, as well as resolving security related support incidents and supporting activities to assure the Trust's compliance with the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.


Experience of resolving Cyber Security incidents and Degree modules in Cyber Security and/or current Cyber Security qualifications would be advantageous.


The post holder will be conversant with current and upcoming IT Security legislation, understand the objectives of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit, and have a working knowledge of the principles of cyber threat identification and mitigation.

Practically, you must be able to manage your own workload, including regular daily tasks and emergent incidents, within governing project plans.

As an Information Security Specialist you will provide a range of customer-focused support services to colleagues and end users.

These will include problem solving, administrative tasks - such as record keeping and documentation - and incident resolution, to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, and compliance with GDPR, Cyber Essentials, NHS DSPT, etc.

There will be regular liaison with first, second and third line service delivery teams and third-party suppliers.

A good, workplace, knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office suites is essential alongside excellent communication and customer service skills.


We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country.

  • To help ensure high availability, security and usability of Trust digital services.
  • Liaise with Server and Infrastructure teams to assist with testing and deployment of operating system and firmware updates.
  • Liaise with Mobile/Agile Specialist to ensure that all mobile and agile services remain secure as they evolve, and that new services are compliant.
  • Review daily malware and breach detection logs and alerts to ensure all detected threats are being managed.
  • Implement technical security fixes, changes, and configurations as required.
  • To troubleshoot and resolve assigned security related support calls in a timely manner and in line with Trust standards and service levels, and work with technical support teams to mitigate/remove threats.
  • Maintain resist and recover plans for rapid threat response in conjunction with technical team leaders
  • To administer web filtering categories and exclusions, and generate web activity reports as required.
  • To develop and maintain procedures and documentation for the configuration, administration, and support of service security tools.
  • Maintain register of nondomain PCs and audit same on a quarterly basis, ensuring best possible threat mitigation is in place based on available tools, controls, and required operations.
