Live-in Porter - Handyperson
Appin Property are looking for a Live-in Porter - Handyperson for their two small city central guest houses. The properties are just 150m apart with 28 rooms in total across both properties. Breakfast is managed at a local restaurant so no requirement tomanage this. No requirement to clean guest bedrooms, as this is managed by agency staff. Good handyperson skills are needed with a friendly and courteous manner.


Handyperson / Maintenance:

You will need a range of DIY skills to carry out minor repairs within the premises.

Examples include, but not limited to, replace plugs, fuses, lightbulbs, remove toilet blockages, internal & external painting jobs, fitting of doors/locks, repairs to brokenwindows/doors, repair carpet/wooden floors, replace broken tiles, watering plants, gritting, snow clearing, conserve energy by switch on/off heating & lighting.

During quieter times, repairs and painting may be required at tenanted flats owned by Appin Property in the city.


Cleaning:

Daily halls and communal areas cleaning both external and internal, by following by completing a checklist on our software. No requirement to clean the bedrooms, as this is managed by agency staff. Breakfast is managed at a local restaurant so no requirementto manage/clean after breakfasts.


Building Security:

We run self-service guesthouses, so apart from Friday evenings, you will be the only onsite representative of our team. Guest noise control if required and monitoring of CCTV. Ensure buildings are secure providing general guesthouse security.


Guest Services / Concierge:

Be helpful and accommodating, answer guest queries. Help guests with electronic door locks, Wi-Fi, TVs, showers, general guest queries. Give directions to local attractions, make them feel welcome. Store left luggage for guests and ensure they know how toretrieve their luggage.


Reporting & Communication:

Report resolved and unresolved issues to; Head of Housekeeping, Head Of Maintenance or Head of Guest communication. Basic computer skills to be able to report issues.


Working Hours

Days of work:
Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun.

A typical day could be something like this:
Maintenance & Reporting 2-4pm (during guest changeovers)
Cleaning and guest services 4-8pm
On call 8pm to 3am


Key Requirements
Experience in a maintenance or handyman role
High standard of cleanliness; daily hoovering and cleaning required.
Some experience in a similar hotel/guesthouse role would be advantageous
Excellent verbal and written English
A drivers licence would be an advantage


Salary & Benefits
£22,000 per annum salary.
Plus £14,000 worth of free accommodation and utilities (£22k salary +£14k benefits £36k combined).
Private bedroom/kitchen, private bathroom & shower, shared office.
2nd private bedroom for your use at neighbouring guesthouse.
All heating, electricity and council tax bills included.
Free internet / wifi.
Free sky sports, sky entertainment and sky movies (for min 1 year).
Option to join staff pension scheme.
