Children and Young Person's Counsellor
RoSA is a registered charity delivering high quality, specialist services for survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual violence.
We are a team of professional people who are determined in our efforts to alleviate the distress experienced by victims, and to provide appropriate support to empower clients and to facilitate change.
Our service supports adults, young people and children of any age and gender.
We are looking to recruit a Children and Young Persons counsellor to work with children and young people who have experienced or been affected by sexual violence.
The Person and the role
The Children and Young People's Counsellors primary role is to provide high quality 1:1 counselling to vulnerable children and young people in our outreach locations and in schools across the North and South of Warwickshire.
Ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of the children and young people at all times, this role requires a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills, working effectively with the child and/or young person and all relevant professionals.
Accountabilities and main responsibilities of the role
- To plan and deliver one to one therapeutic counselling support to vulnerable children and young people
- Counselling delivery will be a combination of online, face to face or telephone
- To ensure the safeguarding of and to promote the welfare of children you are working with
- To assess the need of the child and/or young person to deliver appropriate bespoke support
- To liaise with relevant frontline professionals
- To support parents/carers and family members
- To ensure high quality delivery of support through regular clinical supervision and team reviews
- To ensure that policies and procedures are complied with and to contribute to any necessary reviews as required
- To complete regular safeguarding training
- To follow reporting procedures to ensure the child's/young person's welfare is always paramount
- To ensure compliance with regulatory and RoSA's policies and procedures
- Take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up to date with research and developments which may lead to improvements in RoSA's counselling service
- To contribute to staff and volunteer meetings, recruitment and training activities when required.

Job related Experience, Qualifications and Skills
- A recognised professional qualification in a relevant field (eg Psychotherapy/ Art Therapies/ Counselling) to at least postgraduate level
- Further training or qualification in working with children and young people (additional training will be given)
- An understanding of the development, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people
- An awareness of range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds
- Knowledge/awareness of the Children's Act and legislation pertaining to children and young people
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to confidently build and maintain relationships with all relevant external professionals
- Have experience of managing own caseload
- A creative and flexible approach
- Able to work on your own initiative and be a flexible team player
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact of the trauma of sexual abuse on a child / young person and their family
- Committed to respecting and maintaining the confidentiality and privacy required by clients and significant others, able to maintain clear professional and personal boundaries
- Have computer literacy skills and have some experience of working with data bases
- A full clean driving licence and use of a car for business purposes is an essential criteria
- Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check
- A strong desire to support and enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young people with patience, tolerance and sensitivity.
Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with possibility to job share.
Salary:
£26-28,000 per year pro rata depending on experience and qualifications.
Company pension.
28 days holiday pro rata plus bank holidays.
