The role is based in the Swindon office however MRC are trialling hybrid office-home working

The Swindon office is based in the Polaris House Campus and offers collaborative working space, staff canteen, free parking, bike sheds, changing rooms and 10-minute walk from Swindon town centre.
Skills, Qualification and Experience:
Essential:
- Literacy and numerical skills e.g. 4/C grade in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent (shortlisting)
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy (shortlisting & interview)
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with evidence of effective teamwork (shortlisting & interview)
- Experience of managing multiple activities to tight deadlines (shortlisting & interview)
- Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally, with a range of colleagues and external contacts (shortlisting & interview)
- Good analytical skills, experience in querying databases (interview)
- Good working knowledge of the MS Office Suite (inc. Outlook, Excel, Word) (interview)
- Experience in delegation and upwards management (interview)
- Selfmotivation and be proactive in using initiative to deliver results (interview)
- Resilience, working in a flexible way and managing change (interview)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of UKRI and grants processing (shortlisting)
- Experience of resource planning and line management, or supervisory experience (interview)
Specific tasks you will deliver include:
- Respond to questions from the external research community through a shared mailbox
- Produce agendas and supporting documents for funding meetings
- Act as point of contact for MRC Board and Panel members throughout the funding process
- Coordinate attendance at funding meetings including applicants, Board and Panel members and MRC staff
- Attend funding meetings (in person and virtually) to provide administrative support, manage scores and logistics.
- Process decisions from funding meetings, communicate notifications and feedback to applicants
- Engage proactively with the crossmatrix resource model providing support for additional MRC funding calls and other projects
- Collaborate with colleagues to review and identify opportunities for improving grant processing
- Line Management with responsibility for attendance and performance management, supporting career development and training, completing yearly appraisals.
- Support other administrative duties, including project work as required
Close working relationships will be required with:
- Applicants for MRC funding
- Peer reviewers and those who select peer reviewers
- Board and Panel members
- MRC staff, including:
- Board and Panel Management teams
- Research Funding and Policy Delivery team
- Events and Committees Team
- Heads of Themes and Programme Managers within the Board/Panel teams
- UKRI staff
