Description

At Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), we're looking for a Complex Weapons Craft Fitter to join our team at Defence Munitions Gosport (DM Gosport).

This site plays a crucial role for defence, supplying and maintaining many of the weapon systems used by the UK military, as they defend national interests across the globe.


The role is part of a team of technical staff focused on supporting all engineering and technical outputs, projects and equipment including calibration, inspection, storage and/or modification.

You'll be responsible for delivering production and engineering activities, with a focus on ensuring workplace & facilities are safe, secure, and correctly set up in compliance with current regulations.


You'll work within a team of experienced technicians, performing a range of engineering procession operations such as assembly, preparation and testing of complex weapons and their associated support equipment.

Many of these weapon systems use cutting-edge components and technology, and your role will be paramount to delivering this battle-winning capability.


This role includes a Recruitment and Retention Allowance of £4,000 per annum, which is paid monthly, and the position requires full time, on-site attendance at our depot in Gosport.

Applicants are required to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years, and to be able to gain Security Clearance without any caveats or Residency Waivers.


Responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing and maintenance support to Weapons Ordnance Munitions Explosives (WOME) processing in accordance with Statements of Work (SOW) and associated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Required to be knowledgeable in the through life management activities of specific types of technology and systems, requiring underpinning technical skills, and domain and technology specific knowledge.
  • The role requires a practitioner able to engage with a wide variety of working level stakeholders; providing support, advice, guidance and suggestions relating to their specific tasking and equipment.
  • Individuals will be mostly responsible for their own work which will relate largely to their underpinning technical skills gained from their craft; although may train or shadow others when working on new complex weapons, Naval Guns, engineering systems and associated equipment, and may supervise trainees and apprentices for short periods.
  • Handle all materials, munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner to comply with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) including authorised and quality procedures, risk assessments, manual handling and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and ensure record keeping is maintained to a high standard and completed in a timely manner.

Person specification

  • Recognised indentured apprenticeship or service equivalent
  • Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Minimum National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)/ Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 within the specialisation or equivalent, with relevant experience.
