Associate Director of Estates & Facilities - Building, Engineering & Maintenance - Cambridge - £80k - £90k

This role is working for a large NHS Foundation Trust.


You will be the focal point for delivering operational engineering & maintenance strategies and services and plant reliability across the Trust.

Responsible for designing and implementing engineering service structures and services to ensure compliance with NHS specific guidance and statutory compliance


This post has significant responsibility across the breadth of building, engineering, maintenance and allied services and is the focal point for delivery, working closely with the heads of service, engineering staff, craft staff and construction professionals,clinicians, senior managers, along with statutory bodies and external agencies.


You will have responsibility for ensuring up to date estate information, commissioning specialist external services to ensure a robust set of estate related information is available, inform the life safety critical infrastructure five-year forward view andannual plan and be responsible for and accountable for costed action plans are developed to support the operational services and are incorporated into the annual capital planning process.


You will lead the building engineering and maintenance teams and services, ensuring robust business plans are brought forward and operational processes are in place to deliver an excellent operational service, which safeguards the engineering and buildingassets.

Provide specialist technical guidance to heads of service regarding engineering changes, providing necessary approvals as is required


Procure and provide cost advice / estimates in the preparation of building and engineering repairs and replacement feasibility studies and detailed schemes.

Be responsible for developing a five-year forward maintenance programme and provide specialist inputinto the 6-facet assessment to ensure a robust and accurate reflection of the Trust's engineering & infrastructure assets.

Ensure appropriate specialist advisors, engineers and technical support are allocated to building and engineering maintenance activities.


Consistent maintenance schedules are prepared for each asset, ensuring current statutory legislation, HBNs and HTMs are adhered to wherever possible.


You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Degree in Building Service Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
  • Masters Degree or equivalent healthcare specialist experience at senior engineering level in a complex engineering environment
  • Significant post qualification experience & track record of Managing Estates & Facilities assets and services, including budgets within a complex acute health environment
  • Significant experience operating at head of service/associate Director level
  • Managing strategic and operational change. Including the impact on assets, resources, services & staff and developing new ways of working.
  • Management of multidisciplinary professional teams
  • Management of capital programmes for maintenance and development of estates, facilities and property
  • Management of nonskilled, skilled and professional staff
  • Management of multidisciplinary teams and committee working
  • Maintenance and project planning
  • Financial management and analytical abilities
  • Business case and report writing which contributes to presentations to Board level
