Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
Design, Management and Delivery
- Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate the portfolio of existing and novel education, faculty development and human factors training initiatives in both virtual and face to face environments, that is aligned to established educational principles and current evidencebased practice ensuring it is focused on patient safety and quality.
- Robustly determine training and development needs using recognised Training Needs Analysis (TNA) methodologies across staff groups at all levels, at an organisational, service and team level as required.
- Develop and implement evidencebased approaches to Simulation Based Education (SBE), IPE, faculty development and human factors training across a range of settings.
- Prepare and produce resources and course/programme materials required to support training initiatives.
- Setup and prepare for the delivery of education sessions. This can involve moving furniture and heavy or specialised training resources.
- Create a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment, where individuals take ownership for their own personal and professional development.
- Facilitating education using a variety of teaching and learning strategies.
- Confidently manage difficult or complex learning situations appropriately and sensitively.
- Provide pastoral and posttraining support to individuals and teams addressing difficulties where possible and signposting or referring when necessary.
- Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of interventions using recognised learning evaluation methodologies on individuals, teams, and the wider organization.
Person specification:
Qualifications:
Essential criteria:
- Current and appropriate level of professional/ statutory Registration for area of specialty e.g. RN/ RM/ HCPC/MD
- Evidence of professional post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
- Educated to BSc / 1st degree level or equivalent qualification / training and experience
- Recognised teaching qualification or demonstrates equivalent highly developed specialist knowledge, skills, and formal teaching experience at degree level
Desirable criteria:
- Master's degree or Apprenticeship L7 or working towards
- Recognised qualification or experience in coaching, mentoring and/or action learning
- Training in patient safety and human factors
Experience:
Essential criteria:
- Post registration clinical practice experience in healthcare setting
- Clinical experience working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care
- Experience working as a manual handling link worker/trainer
- Extensive teaching experience within a range of settings e.g., formal / informal, individuals / small / large groups, multidisciplinary, clinical / nonclinical environments, face to face / remotely.
- Extensive experience in designing, planning, delivering, and evaluating learning interventions in a range of settings.
- Practical experience conducting educational audit, evaluation or research
- Practical experience of leading and facilitating change and improvement
- Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures
Desirable criteria:
- Experience developing and delivering virtual / remote / electronic education packages
- Experience in committee work related to moving and handling
Knowledge:
Essential criteria:
- Working knowledge of clinical skills teaching equipment and aids
- Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policies and drivers for change
- Highly developed understanding of educational theory and practice, particularly in relation to adult learners, experiential and reflective learning, and a commitment to educational quality.
- Welldeveloped understanding of multidisciplinary issues and a commitment to multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria:
- Knowledge and understanding of health professional education and curricula
- Welldeveloped understanding of core principles of human factors, particularly in relation to human error, nontechnical skills, and systems design thinking
Skills & Abilities:
Essential criteria:
- Evidence of welldeveloped clinical practice
- Evidence of strong teaching and facilitation skills and highlydeveloped educational practice
- Routinely applies evidencebased research to clinical and educational practice across a range of setting
- Routinely applies governance principles to clinical and educational practice across a range of settings e.g., risk management, audit and quality assurance
- Proven ability to facilitate learning of multidisciplinary learners in a range of settings e.g., in/formal, individuals / groups, non/clinical environments, face to face / remotely
- Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate training interventions across a range of settings in line
