Description

Medical Same Day Emergency care Unit ( MSDEC ) at SWBH NHS Trust to increase our team of ward clerks.

OurMedical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) department is an acute area currently based across our 2 existing sites, which provides specialised acute service to treat those with varying medical conditions, enabling a significant number of our patients who require emergency care to be managed safely the same day and without the need to admit into hospital between the hours of 7.30 am unitl 10pm, 7 days per week.


Apprenticeship entry requirements:


Where a business administrator has not already achieved level 2 functional skills/equivalent English and Math, or equivalent, they must do so before taking the end point assessment.

During the apprenticeship training programme, you will work towards achieving the requirements of the personal specification. The training will be provided in house; all off the job training will be within working hours. The business administrator apprenticeship will generally take up to 21 months to complete, including end point assessment.


  • To undertake receptionist duties for all visitors entering the ward /clinic
environment in accordance with the visiting policy and security systems.

  • To maintain a complete case note record for each patient on the ward
/clinic according to health care records procedure.

  • To verify, amend and add relevant information to the daily bed return and update MEDWAY/PIMS and other patient registration systems, including
admission, discharge and transfer. To complete and keep up to date the
admissions book.

  • To use all functionality available within the Patient Information
Management System (e.g. PIMS/MEDWAY and any other patient
registration system) including, patient registration, results reporting and
case note tracking, etc.

  • To make arrangements and to complete procedures associated with the
discharge and transfer of patients. To arrange x-rays, tests, follow-up
appointments, ambulance transport and collection of medicines on
discharge as requested by clinical staff.

  • To receive requests for future possible admissions and confer with nursing staff/bed management as appropriate.


We are moving into our new acute hospital "The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital" in 2024 the new acute hospital in Grove Lane, Smethwick will bring together all acute services onto one site.

The single-site acute hospital will benefit from co-located specialist services with SDEC holding a large footprint of 24 Trollies spaces and 30 chairs which will support the new Emergency Department with dedicated imaging facility and assessment units.

It will provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients from Sandwell and across the region.
