The post is aimed at a Senior Plastic Surgery trainee.

These do not carry SAC or college approval for training at present and would therefore suit a post CCT or equivalent individual.

(Previous fellows have been able to have part of the fellowship counted as Out of Program Training, after necessary SAC /deanery approval).

The post will be based at the Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, at the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre.

The one advertised post are for 12 months each, one
starting February 2024.

Main duties of the job

The microfellow timetable is quite flexible to accommodate the fellow needs but also the departmental needs. The post holder will be allocated to assist and will gain training in microsurgical reconstruction
2-3 days of the week.

One day will be given to other duties within the department including trauma or covering absence of colleagues if necessary.

As a senior trainee it will be expected that help will be
given to junior trainees in oncological reconstructions as well as coordinating trauma and other cases.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There is dedicated non-resident on-call with this post. The post holder will be part of a 1 in 9 registrar on call rota. This includes Hot-week oncall commitments.

The post holder will be expected to be competent in initial management of common Plastic Surgery emergencies including major burns (adult and paediatric) and operative management of basic hand trauma including tendon and nerve repairs.

Qualifications:

Essential criteria

  • Must hold or be eligible for Full Registration with the General Medical Council and license to practice
  • GMC Registration (or eligible) BMBS or equivalent MRCS or equivalent
Experience

Essential criteria

  • About to end plastic surgery training, senior registrar or post CCT training or equivalent by the time the fellowship starts
  • Worked at Registrar level in Plastic Surgery
Desirable criteria

  • Experience in Plastic Surgery at Senior registrar level with microsurgical experience. Experience/ understanding of NHS system
Other criteria

Essential criteria

  • Communication skills, computer skills, good professional relationships, commitment to Plastic Surgery Driving license

  • Evidence of having participated in research Evidence of participation in audit during previous employment

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
