Job Purpose


We require an experienced and suitably qualified Advanced Level Teaching Assistant to further expand the work of our Learning Development department.

You will need to be highly motivated, effective and confident, supporting students with SEND. Working with pupils in KS1 and KS2, with the possibility of some KS3 work. The LD department is well resourced and respected.

The postholder will join the department at an exciting time, as the Learning Development Department is thriving and seeks to continue to develop its provision to maximise student outcomes across all four schools in the Collegiate.


As well as continuing the exceptional support we offer to SEND students, we are looking to build a dynamic and innovative department which seeks to develop the learning of all students to support, stretch and challenge them, irrespective of ability.


The Learning Development department
The Learning Development Department supports students from Chapter House through to the end of KS5.

It currently comprises three full-time teachers (the Head of Learning Development, the Chapter House LD coordinator and an LD teacher) and eight full / part-time Teaching Assistants.

The primary role of the Teaching Assistants is to support students within the classroom; however, they also provide some 1:1 and small group catch-up sessions.

The postholder must be ready to commit to supporting the whole department to develop our provision and to ensure that all our students, regardless of their additional needs, reach their full potential.


Your duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Support for students

  • Work with students in KS1 and KS2, with the possibility of KS3 work
  • Use training/experience to support students
  • Assist with the implementation of ILPs
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Support students consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Encourage students to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all students in activities
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward selfreliance
  • Promote good behaviour and management of relationships with peers and staff
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement

Support for academic staff

  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment
  • Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans for individual students, as appropriate
  • Monitor and evaluate students' responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectives.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, on student achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed, contributing to reviews of systems/ records as requested.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Administer and evaluate routine tests and invigilate exams/tests

Support for the curriculum

  • Implement agreed learning activities, adjusting activities according to student responses/needs
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop students' competence and independence in its use

Support for the Collegiate

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Carry out duties on a rota basis and one evening duty each week
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/wor
