This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to progress in a challenging new role.

As a Plant Operator you will be working alongside the Regional Plant Manager and our team based at South Petherton to ensure the efficient and effective running of our anaerobic digestion plant trading as Sustainable Energy Generation (SEG).

The plant is based in a rural community and currently provides renewable energy to the surrounding locality. This role involves working with farmyard manures, crops and other feedstocks. A practical, can do attitude is essential for this role as is reliability and excellent time keeping. In return we offer an excellent package working alongside our friendly team. Salary range is £29,328 - £32,000 basic (depending upon experience).

  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance is required as the role will include fault repairs on pumps and motors working and training alongside the Regional Maintenance Manager
  • Previous experience of operating plant machinery is desirable (telehandler/tractor) is desirable
  • An excellent understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance is essential
  • Excellent IT skills are required together with good analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Attention to detail, a can do attitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills are also essential.

Role description:


  • Supporting the Plant Manager in the day to day running of the plant including some feeding and routine monitoring
  • Plant optimisation / cleaning and assisting the Plant Maintenance team with general maintenance including minor fault repairs on pumps and motors. Ensuring that all preventative and reactive maintenance is carried out in accordance with the maintenance plans within set timeframes.
  • Carrying out plant daily/weekly/monthly checks and ensuring that these are completed within the timescales set and recorded accurately in line with the Company protocols.
  • Plant optimisation / cleaning and maintenance including minor fault repairs on pumps and motors.
  • Monitoring IT control systems and responding accordingly. This will include remote monitoring via a SCADA system.
  • Liaising with the partner farming teams delivering feedstock into the plants
  • Adhering to, monitoring and responding appropriately to site processes and procedures
  • Health and Safety implementation and compliance
  • Maintaining good liaison with colleagues, residents and other stakeholders good communication skills essential.
  • At times you will be responsible for the daytoday operation of the plant and emergency call out. This is based on a rota system.
  • Support training programs when required to facilitate knowledge sharing for plant and operations
  • Ensure Ixora HR Guidelines are followed at all times.

Education/Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge/Skills, Behaviours and Other

  • Experience working on similar operational sites or in an agricultural/engineering environment
  • Full UK driving licence is essential
  • Previous experience of operating plant machinery and current licence/ticket ie.tractor driving/telehandler/forklift is desirable
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance
  • Proven ability to work to timelines and good time management skills
  • A positive, proactive and dedicated approach with good flexibility
  • Ability to interpret data to maximise output and solve process issues
  • IT literate with excellent numerical, analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Attention to detail and a practical can do attitude. Good reliable team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and in collaboration with other stakeholders, partners and colleagues
  • Resilience and drive and the ability to work under own initiative and outofhours
  • Ability to plan and prioritise complex and varied tasks.
