On behalf of our client, Longstowe Hall Estate, we're recruiting a part time Bookkeeper to join them on a permanent basis.

Situated 9 miles west of Cambridge, Longstowe Hall Estate has been part of the Cambridgeshire countryside since the 1580s. At the core of the Estate is a successful farming enterprise. In addition, Longstowe Hall operates an exclusive wedding and events venue.

Due to impending retirement, the business is looking for a part time Bookkeeper to join them for around two days per week (flexibility at year end required).


The business is looking for an experienced Bookkeeper or Accounts professional to undertake transactional finance duties as well as reconciliations, VAT and payroll tasks for Longstowe Hall Estate and Longstowe Hall Partnership.

Due to the nature of the business, there will be some adhoc administration tasks involved when required by the business.

The business use Xero so any experience of this system is desirable. Hybrid working is allowed.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts professional to take on a flexible but interesting finance role, working for an exceptional business.


What you'll be doing:


  • Enter all purchases into accounts, including allocation of costs in agreed proportions between businesses and private expenditure
  • Enter all sales into accounts system
  • Issue invoices for annual licence renewals and quarterly utility recharges
  • Collate grain sale invoices with the Farm Manager's grain movement records
  • Monthly reconciliation of two business bank accounts
  • Prepare data for VAT returns and submit VAT returns monthly for Longstowe Hall Estate and quarterly for Longstowe Hall Partnership to statutory deadlines
  • Report accounts data to the Company and consultants to the Company when required
  • Prepare accounts and documents as required by the Company's Accountant for the year end audit
  • Assist the Company and consultants to the Company in preparation of budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Run payroll for 10 employed staff and adhoc events and summer staff
  • Assist the Company with annual pay reviews
  • Submit pension data to the staff pension provider on a monthly basis aswell as other statutory pension tasks when required

Additional tasks for Longstowe Hall Estate as follows:

  • Annual farm valuation using data supplied by the Farm Manager on 1st April each year
  • Assist the Company with rent reviews for rental properties
  • Submit solar panel data for FiTs and Export
  • Maintain a diary including dates for tenancy renewals, solar data deadlines, payment of Business Rates and Council Tax, payment of vehicle tax and MOT; and prompt the Company to carry out or discuss or provide data for the completion of these tasks as necessary.

About you:


  • Experienced Bookkeeper or Accountant in a similar role
  • Farming experience desirable but not essential
  • Xero experience desirable but not essential
  • Payroll and pension knowledge
  • A self motivated, flexible, friendly professional
  • A collaborative, team player but also able to work without supervision

Job Type:

Part-time hours: 15 per week


Salary:
£18.00-£22.00 per hour
