Description

First Class Support:
Provides academic support to students in receipt of disabled student allowance (DSA).

We pride ourselves on only employing first class support specialists that are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people studying higher education courses across the UK.

Due to continued expansion, we are looking to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff.

There is currently a position available for a specialist one to one study skills support worker(AS) to support students and carry our company name.

Therefore applicant competition will be potentially tough, so only the best need apply.

Your role:

This role is based in Edinburgh.

To address the issues which some students might have in acquiring, recalling and retaining information in written and spoken language as well as the range of memory, organisational, attention and numeracy difficulties that students with specific learning difficulties often face when working in an HE context.

These difficulties may have been identified already but they may only become evident when a student faces the academic challenges of HE work.

Your support should aim to develop students' skills for autonomy in the learning environment.

It should be tailored to a student's individual needs and you will use your professionalism and experience to deliver support where clear goals and timescales are of paramount importance.

Often, students will require ongoing support throughout their course; others might require less support as the course continues; while some students might need additional support as the demands of their course intensify.

It is likely that students receiving your support will be dyslexic and/or have other specific learning difficulties including autism. In these instances you will need to demonstrate specific experience of working with students with these disabilities.

Your Skills:

You will have substantial experience of working with students with disabilities and/or specific learning difficulties on a one to one basis.

You will similarly demonstrate an in depth understanding of the effects of specific learning difficulties on language and learning in an HE context, and, when working with students with other disabilities, an in depth knowledge of how these disabilities affect particular areas of learning.

You will possess an awareness of the strengths which students with specific learning difficulties can bring to a learning situation, and the skills to help students to make use of these strengths and overcome barriers to learning.

Your qualifications/training (AS)

You will educated to degree level (2:1 or above only), and hold a teaching qualification.

Those to be considered to work with students on the autistic spectrum, you will be required to have completed all NAS core online training modules, an NAS tutor-led-course, other HE training.
