Purpose of Role:


The Security Internship Programme is part of of the IT&T Core Services Unit with a focus on the Cyber & Security Operations team that is made up of Level 1 Security Analysts, Level 2 Security Analysts, Level 3 Security Analysts and Security Engineers.

Time can also be spent with the CISO function which consists of Security Consultants, Security Governance and OT Security Consultants.

The Graduate Scheme will last 3 to 4 months


The placement opportunities include:

  • Security Analysis (incident response, threat hunting & intelligence, alert analysis etc)
  • Security Engineering (security tooling configuration, vulnerability scanning, security change management etc)
  • CISO & OT Consultancy (Security awareness & training, OT Security Guidance & Best Practice)

This internship may include:

  • Investigating cyber events, cyber threats and cyber incidents
  • Operating software to protect systems and information infrastructure i.e. SIEM, SOAR and Vulnerability Management platforms
  • Managing various workload queues (SIEM, EDR, Mailbox, IT Service Now)
  • Documenting confirmed security threats and breaches and assess where possible the damage they cause.
  • Preparing monthly service management and other service reports.
  • Documenting procedures and methodologies as needed
  • Supporting the implementation of new tools and technologies such as internal sandboxes, labs, and segregated networks
  • Working alongside our Vulnerability Management resources to investigate environments for anomalies and promote best practice resolutions.
  • Working alongside our Threat Intelligence resources to conduct Threat Intelligence reviews of Open and Dark Web using commercial and Open-Source tools.
  • Engaging in knowledgesharing.
  • Final week presentation on a security topic including all areas of the internship

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse current trending phishing campaigns based on user submissions, using this data to identify any immediate threats to Weir
  • Investigating environments for anomalies and working alongside our Vulnerability Management resources, promoting best practice resolutions.
  • Escalation alerts of interest to senior analysts, working closely to observe additional artefacts gathered and investigations performed
  • Manage BAU Security Operations dashboards, performing L1 investigations Support Threat Intelligence reviews of the Open and Dark Web using commercial and Open-Source tools.

Job Knowledge:

  • Foundational knowledge of information and cyber security
  • Experience in proactive communication to and direct interaction with senior staff. Desired eligibility requirement
  • Selfmotivated individual with a flexible and positive approach to work.
  • A genuine interest and passion for the Information Security industry and a belief that security is a business enabler.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Working towards an information security/cyber security degree
