Senior Payroll Assistant - 12 months FTC - Watford

The Finance Operational Excellence Hub (
OEH) provides Finance transactional support to our UK Business and through our service pledge underpins our overall Finance strategy and vision.

We are a busy team covering operational tasks supporting our clients - the business, enabling them to support their clients.

The Finance
OEH is made of five operational teams: Payroll, Credit Management, Engagement Finance Champions, Accounts Payable, Expenses, Accounts Receivable & Interoffice, WIP& Billing and the Finance Helpline, the team is also supported from two offshored two outsourced providers.

The Finance
OEH work closely with the Centre of Excellent (CoE) team to ensure all the policies and regulations are adhered to and operationalised.

The Payroll Department is responsible for the regular monthly payment of over 16,000 employees based in the UK.

Based in Watford, the Payroll department has 10 permanent staff dealing with the payment of employees from all of KPMG's UK offices.

What will you be doing?

  • To assume primary responsibility for a specified group of monthly paid staff (approximately 3,200), ensuring data held within the payroll system is accurate and updated within controlled processes
  • To maintain an awareness of current and future PAYE developments; keeping up to date with changes that directly affect the firm's employees, related enhancements and changes within the payroll software, and other internal and external policy decisions that impact upon an individual's pay and reward.
  • To liaise with other Central Services teams to ensure the timely and accurate flow of data and information to support the payroll team and related processes, whilst maintaining knowledge of their systems and processes that have a link with the payroll process.
  • To ensure the timely and satisfactory resolution of payroll queries; resolving general queries from employees regarding their monthly payment and tax status, investigating complex payroll queries that require expert knowledge of PAYE.

What will you need to do it?
The role of the Senior Payroll Administrator requires the following experience and qualities:

  • Experience of working in a payroll function
  • A good level of computer literacy, with advanced knowledge of payroll software packages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure to produce work to very tight deadlines
  • Have initiative and ability to cope with erratic workloads whilst prioritising their own tasks

Skills we'd love to see/Amazing Extras:

  • Significant Audit experience within a 'Big 4' consultancy, or mid-tier firm.
  • Experience of Highvolume payroll
  • Experience using the Payroll Software Star
