Baron Davenport's Charity is a large grant making charity based in central Birmingham supporting a wide range of organisations and individuals.


We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our small team to help us continue the great work we already do.

We are looking for a Grants Manager, who is excited about working in the charity sector and wants to make a real difference in the local area.

You will be part of a warm-hearted and supportive team of Trustees and staff members, working partly from home and from our office in the centre of Birmingham.

The Charity makes around 1,500 payments each year, distributing approximately £1m, giving you the chance to make a real impactin the community.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Be the first point of contact for all enquiries to the Charity.
  • Undertake due diligence on all new potential organisation applicants and referrers of grants to individuals.
  • Record database information accurately and on a timely basis
  • Produce high quality papers for grants distribution meetings including award recommendations in line with financial forecasts.
  • Prepare organisation grant award correspondence at the end of each distribution cycle.
  • Oversee grant award correspondence to referrers of grants to individuals.
  • Reconcile payment schedules to database records.
  • Liaise with the finance manager to ensure prompt payment of awards.
  • Manage Trustee beneficiary focus groups and implement action plans.
  • Database ownership and management including record purges in line with policy.
  • Assist with general office administration.

Person specification:


  • Understand notforprofit structures, including charities, social enterprises and other notfor profit vehicles.
  • Experience of completing due diligence on organisations.
  • Understand and interpret budgets and accounts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to engage with grant applicants and referrers.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, tact, and empathy.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity issues.
  • Strong IT skills including Salesforce CRM management, word and excel.
  • Able to work independently to manage own workload and work to deadlines.
  • Experience of the benefit system desirable
  • Basic DBS
  • Full driving licence would be an advantage.

Salary, hours, and benefits:

- £30,000 - £35,000 per annum depending on experience

  • Monday to Friday 35 hours per week
  • Hybrid working minimum 3 days office based.
  • 25 days annual leave increasing with length of service plus bank holidays.
  • 3% employer pension contribution
  • Enhanced sick pay.
