English for Academic Purposes Tutors (ESL Support)

We are looking to recruit an experienced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutor to support learners at CU Coventry (CUC) who are speakers of English as a Second Language (ESL).

CUC offers a wide range of vocationally relevant higher education courses as well as a portfolio of professional qualifications for students from a range of backgrounds.

The EAP Tutor (ESL Support) post has been created to offer language and academic skills support for CUC's ESL students in order to enable these students to succeed and excel on their programmes and future career path.

The support will be offered primarily on a small group and one-to-one basis to enable an individual focus within the sessions along with tailored advice.

The support sessions will allow students to improve their English language and academic skills in order to better understand coursework materials, participate effectively on their course modules and complete assignment tasks successfully.

This post sits with the Languages & EAP (LEAP) team in CU Group, who will be working in collaboration with the CUC Library & Learning Services team to offer this support provision.

Further details:

36.5 hours per week; up to 25 contact hours plus preparation & marking time
Support from the Insessional Course Leader (LEAP) and the Library & Learning Services Manager; some materials provided
14month initial contract (ending Sept 2024) with possibility of extension

Requirements:

Undergraduate degree
Experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes on a presessional, international Foundation and/or insessional programme
Experience of delivering tutorials for academic support
Native or near native speaker (IELTS 8.0 or above) standard of written and spoken English

Benefits:

Salary: £31,491 £38,459 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
30 days annual leave per year plus UK Bank Holidays (leave to be taken outside teaching times)
