Eta Projects Ltd. provide Authorising Engineer (AE) Services to a range of clients across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Founded in 1995 primarily as a M&E Design Consultancy Eta Projects Ltd has developed its Authorising Engineer Services ergonomicallyas the Company has grown and currently offers M&E Authorising Engineering Services to a wide range of clients within the NHS and other industry sectors.

Currently we deliver AE Services for High and Low Voltage Electricity, Mechanical Systems, Water Servicesand Lifts with a vision to expand into other Services sectors positioning the Business as the "One Stop" partner for Authorising Services for all disciplines.


To realise that vision Eta Projects Ltd are now looking for an AE Confined Spaces, to work and give guidance on Confined Space Entry, Regulation and Authorisation, providing the primary audit function to the Designated Person within specified Safe Systemsof Work (SSoW), whilst discharging their other Roles and Responsibilities defined within the SSoW document.

Main Responsibilities

Primary Role:

  • To implement, administer, monitor and audit SSoW within healthcare, commercial, Ministry of Defence and industrial environments, also reporting on compliance with Statutory and Company procedures.
  • Provide timely and accurate input to incident investigations and resolve technical operational issues.
  • Process findings of Technical Compliance Audits and assist with the closure of nonconformances.
  • To manage and offer guidance pertaining to relevant Safety Alerts.
  • Maintain a register of all Authorised Persons including their training records and areas of responsibility.
  • Issue audit findings via a technical audit report to Designated Person/Principal Engineer agreeing a suitable site AP Action Plan.
  • Report to the Designated Person any deficiency in the number of trained and competent APs which may impair the provision of the necessary cover.
  • Define in writing the exact extent of the systems and installations for which an AP is responsible, keeping appropriate records.
  • Ensure that all points of demarcation and operational interface with other Authorities are clearly identified and recorded.
  • Regularly review the competence, performance, and documentation of each AP.
  • Recommend / verify relevant AP technical and procedural training in accordance with the AEs assessment.

Secondary Role:

  • Inputting into practice improvements in work methods and delivery.
  • Collaborating with Associate Directors and Directors in identifying and implementing new work practices and innovation.
  • Performing site surveys on behalf of clients, to identify and assess confined spaces, before recommending appropriate control measures or remedial works via written reports.
  • Providing Authorised Person services for clients upon request.
  • Development, production, planning and delivery of confined spaces training courses (Authorised Person, Competent Person, and Safe Management of Confined Spaces) to meet client needs, in accordance with relevant legislation and client company procedures.
  • Ensuring equipment for training is documented and routinely inspected/maintained as per statutory requirements.
  • Provide direction and guidance on emergency and rescue arrangements for all levels of confined spaces working.

Person Specification:


  • Practical and relevant technical engineering experience of working within healthcare, commercial, Ministry of Defence and industrial environments
  • Has recognised health & safety qualifications and is registered with an appropriate professional body
  • IIRSM, IOSH or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge and Understanding of the HTM's and JSP 375 Vol
  • Recent experience working as an Authorising Engineer
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the statutory and HSE (and industry best practice) guidance documents relating to Confined Spaces
  • Experience in working within a structured safe system at work
  • Proven track record of presenting training within the confined space discipline especially client specific courses on site
  • Must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of general UK Health and Safety Legislation and an ability to carry out risk assessments and propose actions for risk control/management
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willing to Travel
  • Have held, or currently hold, an MoD AE Licence


You will also possess excellent communication skills to confidently impact design team meetings as well as build and sustain a strong relationship between your team and the end client.
