We have a great opportunity for a Capital Project Controller to join our Project Controls team working within the Capital Delivery Programme Management Office, (PMO).


Effective project management requires effective planning and control, As a Project Controller you will work alongside other project delivery professionals and be tasked with providing effective planning and control techniques and guidance to project teams.

Your aim will be to ensure United Utilities delivers against its targets by assisting with the successful delivery of the Capital Programme, ensuring that projects are delivered to the required outcomes (time, cost and quality).


Job Accountabilities:


  • Controlling project costs by ensuring cost are accurately forecast, are booked to using the current Cost Breakdown Structure
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules
  • Working with projects teams to forecast resource demand.
  • Ensuring accurate accruals are assessed and posted
  • Managing and recording change.
  • Managing and recording Risk
  • Maintaining appropriate project baselines
  • Ensuring that project outputs are captured, reported and remain accurate
  • Preparing summary reports to highlight project issues, risks and forthcoming milestones and actions, and prompting intervention as necessary.
  • Supporting the Project manager and Project Team to ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget and meet the project objectives.
  • Challenging and advising project managers and project teams on corrective actions.
  • Supporting the Senior Project Controller in ensuring overall control of the programme.
  • Support programme delivery achieved by undertaking estimate handover, cost engineering, planning, risk facilitation, change management and generation of management information.
  • Delivering a baseline position, reflecting the company business plan and any approved change.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent proven industry experience
  • Demonstrate ability to influence decision makers and build effective relationships.
  • Must be able to demonstrate management of stakeholders, flexibility and adaptability to respond rapidly to unexpected events, having the ability to develop creative solutions to problems and implement within team.
  • Must be able to demonstrate own time management and workload interface planning.
  • A good understanding of the activities and timescales required to effectively deliver a project.
  • Awareness of appropriate HSE for role.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, Primavera P6 & SAP
