An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dietetic Assistant to come and work within the Sussex Rehabilitation Centre, based at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.


We are looking for a hard working and enthusiastic person to work within our small friendly team to assist the dietitians, as well as working with other members of the multidisciplinary team, in providing support to our adult inpatients.


The successful applicant will undertake a mix of clinical patient facing and administrative duties in 18 hours per week, within core hours Monday-Friday.

Days of the week worked can be flexible upon negotiation.


To support the registered dietitians in providing a quality dietetic service to inpatients at the Sussex Rehab Centre at Princess Royal Hospital.


  • Following training: to assist dietitians in the review of patients.
  • To provide nonclinical support to the dietitians, e.g. maintaining department resources, inputting of data, general admin duties.
  • Support the dietitians in normal activities undertaken by department
  • MDT working, projects, meetings, service developments, audits & research, developing resources, training other health professionals.

The Nutrition and Dietetics department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is a great place to work.

We are a large team of dietitians providing care to inpatients and outpatients across Sussex.

This role works closely with the dietitians at Princes Royal Hospital

Your training and development is very important to us and full training for this role can be provided.

This role would suit someone interested in nutrition and dietetics.

Main Duties

  • To assist in the monitoring of patients at the request of the dietitian (e.g. recording weights, food intake, nutritional supplement/feed intake) and accurately report back to the dietitian.
  • Use proformas to undertake dietetic followup care of patients who have been assessed by the dietitians facetoface or by telephone.
  • To develop knowledge and work appropriately within scope of skills and competencies in delivering any care or advice to patients and their carers.
  • To accurately gather information required to enable patient referrals to be prioritised.
  • To assist patients in tasting nutritional supplements recommended by the dietitian to establish personal preferences. To ensure this is then communicated to the dietitians and nursing staff.
  • To help facilitate group sessions.
