This role entails


We're looking for an on-screen journalist to join our popular weekly magazine programme Border Life - showcasing the best of life in the south of Scotland, and reporting on the extraordinary things that ordinary people get up to.


We need someone who can generate original content of interest right across the region, and who can research and set up the elements required to make it into a Border Life feature.


You'll have an insight into what our audience wants, and an ambition to go the extra mile to deliver it.

You'll have some experience of directing camera crews, and be able to self-shoot material to supplement those crew days.


You will have sound storytelling skills, and be able to produce a basic edit of the item and to guide our craft editor towards a polished finished product.

A solid background in television news journalism or hands-on programme-making is essential.


You will need to be based within easy reach of filming locations in the south of Scotland, and will generally be required to provide your own means of transport to and from those locations.


If you're a first class communicator with the ability to build relationships with contacts to bring in original news stories, we'd love to hear from you.


  • On-Screen Journalists are required to provide their own means of transport to and from location. The vehicle must be appropriately insured, taxed and maintained. ITV will cover mileage expenses in line with HMRC regulations.
  • This is a demanding role requiring the individual to work long and sometimes unsociable hours at short notice
  • This is a physically demanding role requiring individuals to transport, carry and operate a camera (and associated equipment) on a regular basis. A preemployment health check is required.
  • The rostered hours for this role will include weekend, early and late working.

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the Minimum role criteria:

  • Proven track record of delivering impactful, original, high-quality & distinctive journalism.
  • Proven technical ability (self shooting, editing, live reporting & digital) to give the story maximum impact as part of a package, online report, 'blog' or as a 'live'.
  • A strong knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement.

The Key role criteria is as follows:

  • The ability to demonstrate resilience & determination with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
  • An understanding of the importance of Diversity & Inclusion in determining output.
