The City of York Council are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Be Independent Community Equipment and Response Service to play an active role in ensuring the co-ordination of management information and data collection throughout Be Independent.

Managing business support assistants and warehouse staff whilst ensuring the needs of our customers are understood and the service develops.

The production of performance data is required to meet both monthly and quarterly reporting deadlines.


The post holder will join a team providing effective leadership and support to manage staffing schedules to enable the continual function of our core services, allowing us to deliver vital support to eligible York residents when they need it.

Responsibilities of the post include (but are not limited to):
Undertake line management including development and training, discipline, supervision and appraisal, sickness absence and leave.


Implementing health and safety processes and procedures as they impact on staff, equipment, and service resources, within the work setting.


Use judgement and discretion in the assessment of customer needs in situations that may be distressing, making decisions, and taking appropriate actions.

Practical experience of logistics and store management processes involved in delivering a service to individual customers' homes.


Strong customer focus, communication, listening and problem-solving skills are a must as well as excellent ICT skills and experience of using databases and reporting systems.

The role requires education to 'A level' standard or equivalent level of experience including creating and introducing innovative ways of working to enhance service delivery, collection rates and daily targets.


Previous line management experience is required as well as experience of successful partnership working with colleagues from other statutory, independent, and voluntary agencies working in social care, housing, and health; we are looking to recruit someone with a combination of the right skillset, values, and behaviours, who can demonstrate sensitivity, tact, and the ability to negotiate with people.


Following a review of processes due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a Hybrid working role, encompassing time spent at our office and time spent working from home in liaison with work colleagues and dependent on service needs.

It is a fast-paced environment, often with high volumes of work: therefore, you will need to demonstrate an ability to prioritise, and to work collaboratively with others to solve problems.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role.

Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process.

Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
