Job Purpose:
The Pastoral Care Officer, reporting to the CEO, Head of School, and Pastoral Lead, will:

  • Assist the Pastoral Lead in the care and welfare of all learners.
  • Ensure professional and caring personal management and supervision of learners.
  • Act as a point of contact in the absence of the Pastoral Lead, handling daytoday operational matters.
  • Assist in ensuring adherence to procedural policies related to the pastoral care, management, and supervision of learners.
  • Assume a lead role in pastoral matters in the absence of the Pastoral Lead.

Key Relationships:
Learners, PSHE Coordinator, Pastoral Lead, Multi-agency Team, Heads of School, CEO, Parents, and Governing Body.

Main Duties:

The following outlines the typical duties expected of the postholder, which may not be exhaustive, and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required from time to time.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with learners.

Ensure the promotion and safeguarding of the welfare of all children.

Respond appropriately to the social, emotional, and physical needs of learners.

Assist with maintaining learners' hygiene and, when necessary, address intimate care needs.

Supervise learners during break times and lunchtimes.

Be part of an on-call support network available to learners throughout the school day.

Liaise and communicate with all school staff regarding pastoral and operational matters.

Provide classroom cover in the absence of teaching colleagues.

Liaise with parents and carers.

Conduct home visits to parents/carers as necessary, in collaboration with the school's Multi-agency team to support learner placements.

Assist in maintaining a healthy, safe, and secure environment for learners, following school policies and procedures.

Support learner transition through independence training.

Be responsible for the 'first day response' strategy to promote good attendance.


Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the Pastoral Lead, Head Teacher, or Principal consistent with the grading of the post and the nature of the Pastoral Care Officer role within the school.

Promote and implement the Council's Equality Policy in all aspects of employment and service delivery.

Planning


Assist the Pastoral Lead in the continuing development and improvement of the school and its services and help develop policies and procedures, particularly regarding pastoral provision.


In the absence of the Pastoral Lead, ensure that everyday school routines and practices are adequately staffed and supervised to ensure continuity and the safety of learners.


Promote links with the LA, other bodies, and other schools to facilitate school sport and recreational opportunities for learners and resource sharing.

Play a major role in planning and delivering the school's 'out of learning hours' provision.

Management


Ensure the acceptable conduct and behavior of all learners and assume a leading role in the promotion of effective learner management.

Co-manage the school's 'out of learning hours' provision.

Administer learner medication as necessary.

Administration

Organize and maintain records relating to:
Meetings with parent/carers, home visits, etc.

Learners' behaviour, health, and welfare needs.

The administration of medication records in the absence of the Pastoral Lead.

Produce and monitor the completion of learner OSHL files.

Support pastoral task and development through data collation and analysis.


Salary:
£26,014.00-£28,356.00 per year
