The role

We're looking for a creative, empathetic, and ambitious instructional designer to join our team of content editors, content designers, and sub-editors.

You'll work primarily on The Key Safeguarding, delivering new training content that helps school staff keep children safe, and helping us maintain and improve a content library that currently includes 8 elearning courses, scenario-based safeguarding practice materials, and dozens of in-person training resources.

You'll also use your learning design expertise to support the development and delivery of training resources across a wide range of other topics and formats on our Leaders and CPD services.

You will:

  • Design and create high quality, engaging, practical multimedia training materials for school staff, including elearning courses, scenariobased learning resources, adaptable inperson training materials, takeaway resources and immersive video
  • Specialise in the science of learning design, tirelessly seeking new ways to engage our audience and ensure training is impactful, and use your expertise to support colleagues and projects across the team
  • Own the delivery and quality of individual briefs and contribute to decisions about what resources we create, taking accountability for our training content alongside our training content lead

  • Work with our talented team of content editors and subeditors at every stage of the training development process to deliver onbrand content, in our tone of voice, to the highest editorial standards
  • Collaborate with colleagues to research a range of training topics and requirements, combining rigorous desk research, trustworthy external sources, internal expertise and user research with school staff
  • Distill robust research into practical training content that reflects statutory requirements and good practice
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with agencies and freelancers (e.g., around video) to help us deliver excellent multimedia content on time and in full
  • Use qualitative and quantitative feedback and insights to adapt our training content, so we always provide the most practical and valuable training on the market
This role sits within our cross-product, multimedia content team, and reports to our training content lead. You'll also work closely with our product management and marketing teams.

You will:

  • Have 2+ years of instructional design experience
  • Have an expert understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design models
  • Be proficient with Articulate 360 (in particular, Storyline and RISE) and SCORM
  • Have excellent research and writing skills
  • Have a flair for visual design, and a creative spark
  • Have an interest in the education sector, and a strong focus on professional learning
  • Value collaboration and feedback

It would be nice if you:

  • Have experience working with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar design software
  • Have knowledge and experience of accessibility standards and practices in elearning
  • Have mentoring or line management experience

If you don't have all of the skills or experience listed above, but think you'd be a great fit for our team, we'd love to hear from you or chat about the role in more detail.
