We are looking for a Technical Support Officer to join our team in the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aberdeen.

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Provide technical support for students and/or staff within the School of Veterinary Medicine, primarily within the veterinary skills centre, but at times in other areas within the School.
The following activities will be delivered supporting research and/or teaching:

  • Operate a range of specialist machinery and/or equipment.
  • Record and report data accurately.
  • Carry out a range of equipment maintenance and servicing according to instructions.
  • Ensure that the workshop/laboratory/work environment is maintained to the standard required to deliver the appropriate level of service.
  • Liaise where appropriate with external providers (e.g. regarding operation, maintenance and servicing of machinery and/or equipment).
  • Support colleagues and provide basic guidance as required.
  • Provide technical instruction and advice to colleagues, students and/or customers as required.
  • Investigate and devise technical solutions to a range of practical problems to facilitate effective learning, teaching and support services.
  • Clarify work requirement with colleagues, manager or customers, identify and resolve any immediate problems, and refer most complex to manager.
  • Perform work activities to appropriate time and quality requirements, following established procedures.
  • Analyse and interpret data/test results, using a range of standard procedures and present findings accurately.
  • Identify and rectify faults/problems with equipment and protocols, and where appropriate liaise with Information & Digital Services in relation to IT faults and problems.
  • Follow set procedures relating to purchasing of supplies.
  • The driving of vehicles for the business of SRUC may be required.
  • Engage in and undertake professional development activity appropriate/relevant to the post and related professional practices.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post.
