NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.

We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services.

It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, which is a leading centre for cancer services provision.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our friendly dispensary team.

You will work closely with the Dispensary Manager to improve the efficiency and safety of medicines supply to patients at WGH.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic leader who will continue the workforce transformation within the team, improving skill mix and introducing new roles for pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support workers.

This is an exciting time to join our team who is committed to service modernisation and value our staff experience.

You will be also be part of the senior pharmacy technician team, providing leadership and strategic direction to technical services on site.

There will also be the opportunity for collaborative working in partnership with equivalent/similar postholders in other sites as well alongside the relevant education partners to further enhance the experience and development of the pharmacy technical workforce in NHS Lothian.

We invite applicants with post qualification knowledge and practice of dispensing services. It is essential for the post holder to demonstrate previous experience in education, training and supervision of others. Part time working on a job share basis will be considered.

You must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a recognised qualification at HNC level in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, have a final accuracy checking technician qualification and will need to gain a work-based assessor qualification within 24 months of appointment (if not already in place).
