The Product Owner will develop a vision and roadmap for all products within their business area based on input from internal stakeholders, customers (where applicable), market research, analytics and their own insight and experience.


They are responsible for the planning, delivery and ongoing iteration of the products and lead the virtual Product, Architecture, Development, Marketing / Comms and Support teams to ensure products meet this vision, the market needs and are delivered to a consistently high-quality.

Overview of the Function


The Product function is new within Freshfields as we look to leverage the opportunities that come from a major period of Digital Transformation for the firm.

The Product Owner will lead the strategy, planning, delivery, support and optimisation of products for the firm.


Working closely with virtual product, architecture, development and support teams, this function is the bridge between the business and technology; helping to prioritise, developing forums to share ideas and working out what the right products are through insight and analysis.


Key responsibilities and deliverables- Translate business strategy into a product strategy and roadmap.- Collect, manage and maintain all requirements and feedback from internal and external stakeholders.- Develop key relationships with business stakeholders and create forums for regular feedback, idea generation and support.- Produce product and market requirements.- Manage all products from ideation, through to delivery and ongoing iteration.- Be the recognised expert in the business on the products, markets, relevant technologies and the competition.- Represent the voice of the customer in senior level management meetings.- Lead the virtual product teams to deliver the agreed features and objectives.- Develop core positioning and messaging for each product.- Promote the product to internal teams through training sessions, webinars, newsletters etc.- Monitor, report and improve product performance monthly.- Ensure your products are of a consistently high quality.- Maintain and manage a listing of open issues.- Monitor support calls.- Maintain a listing of open requests for enhancements to be triaged and considered with IT management.- Expectation management.- Develop Key Performance Indicators capable of quantifying contribution/correlation between product use and client satisfaction and matter profitability.- Master agile methodology of product/feature lifecycle.

Key requirements (Communication/skills/experience)


Essential- Experience of major web development projects and process.- Experience managing a complex and multi-product / market portfolio.- Prioritised and owned a product roadmap and delivery pipeline.- Comfortable writing and owning high-level business and technical requirements.- Conducted market, customer and competitive research.- Detailed performance analysis and reporting via tools such as Google Analytics etc.- A passion for and knowledge of user experience best practices.- Highly skilled at influencing and communicating with senior business stakeholders.- Gathering of business requirements in a non-product aligned organisation.- Able to translate business strategy into product strategy.- Creating, tracking and meeting product KPIs.- Comfortable building relationships in a non-hierarchical, matrix organisation.- Able to quickly and effectively to make decisions and delegate work and responsibility.- Strategic management of product roadmaps, feature backlogs.- Great communication skills.- Able to demonstrate product leadership, critical thinking and the ability to take the initiative.- A focus and passion for exceptional quality and user experience.- Confident in articulating to business and technology stakeholders what good looks like.


Desirable- Produced business cases to raise significant internal investment over £1m+.- Produced customer and product segmentation, positioning and proposition plans.- Produce wireframes / concepts using tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Figma, Axure etc.- Outbound product marketing support activities including launching, product promotion, producing sales and marketing content and sales support / collateral.- Experience in a Microsoft /.NET development environment.- Experience using Agile software development frameworks.
